Pick Your Team Titans v Warriors - [Round 25, 2025]

Is he wrong though?
No one's perfect but I think TMM has an astute rugby league mind borne from experience in the better clubs up to when he suffered his injury. He was a fullback then and would fulfill that role admirably if given the chance. He would organise defences from the back but, more importantly, would be another attacking weapon on either side of the field. I believe he has been wasted in reserve grade and his role on the bench for the NRL. He is too good to be just covering injuries (including in the forwards!).

Would be interesting to draw a chart for this
We were probably trending for more points until Metcalf got hurt. He took 2 months to get going and we were supposed to have a big run like 2023

Metcalfe's last couple of games were trending down (after our best win of the season).

The 3 best wins this season are pretty evenly spread:
  • Round 14 v Sharks +30 - Healy at 9
  • Round 19 v Tigers +20 - Boyd at 7
  • Round 2 v Sea Eagles +20 - Same team that got belted in Vegas
We are definitely due a peak in points for, the last few games are pretty sad.

Webbys game model of kicking to corners and line speed on defense when they try get out, surely leads to Boyd being the 7?

There is no way Martin should be picked at halfback this weekend! Play him at six if you must have him in the game, and have CHT at 14.

Is boyd perfect, fuck no! But is he the best kicker in the halves we have, fuck yes!

He gets picked in my 17 purely on that alone!
yep and we got a glimpse of what its like being without someone who can kick in the bulldogs game. If CHT is the only one that can kick, it makes it very easy for the defense to just swarm him on the last. There is very little value in having a halfback who is unable to kick unless you have a burton etc type which we dont.

unless ofcourse if Webby decides to throw his entire game model based on territory and possession out the window, which has never looked like happening during his tenure. The problem with TMM at 5/8 is that he becomes the invisible man. Was surprising to see Boyd has a bit of toe to get through lines in the last game. TMM at utility. Unfortunately dont see Healey being selected as a result.

Im still unsure about having EIT in the team other than to give him experience. Hes doing well for a kid, but my preference is for some impact off the bench.

What a topsy turvey ride! It is too late for the next three games to have much affect as the birds have flown high above us, but we must gather the six points on offer regardless of points for and against. I prefer that the next three games would be won by big margins so we don't have anymore tight finishes but I fear that would be optimistic.

I thought the idea of bringing in TMM was a positive sign to give the attack some juice and is a good defender.

Except picked the exact wrong opposition and conditions to do it in.

Last year, the games he started at 7 went like:

Penrith, W, 4 tries, Charnze at 6
Dolphins, W, 4 tries, CHT at 6.
Cowboys, W, 7, CHT
Broncos, W, 6, CHT
Bulldogs, L, 2, CHT, shoulda won (convict officiating)
Raiders, L, 4, CHT shoulda won (goal kicking meltdown)
Tigers, W, 5, CHT
Dolphins, L, 6, CHT

So in every game except the bulldogs the attack did its part when Te Maire was handed the keys, and almost always was partnered with CHT.

Agree the kicking game looks weak, but can’t say the pairing didn’t work. It did work. whenever Johnson would return to the 7 it immediately fell apart, he was on a 10 match losing streak before that final round miracle.

IMO the argument for Boyd on the basis of his kicking is just not as strong as it is in reality vs. the idea of it - his 1st grade appearances have not demonstrated an overwhelming advantage through his kicking game - to me, it often looks less accurate or as poised as it should be, often it just doesn't look like he gets it to the right spot

I think he kicks it where Websters game plan dictates long and into the corners.
But I have sort of noticed that too his kicks are a bit off sometimes.
He succumbs to pressure I am guessing and doesnt stay cool like N Cleary.
The league experts on here could tell us whether cracking under pressure can be changed maybe.

As our fastest and best defensive centre, he must go in. We have no time to test his fitness as we must win this one.
Disagree - no point throwing him in and him getting injured yet again. Try in cup and then go in. I would say with his track record - he will be out again by finals. He hasn’t impressed me much this year at all - in saying that he hasn’t had a lot of game time.
