The good: Ground down and overpowered their forward pack. Young guns continue to impress, going to be well set going forward.
The bad: Ford, Kosi, Pompey. Attack looks clunky as anything. I’d like to see TMM or Boyd get a run.
I like the hypothetical look of our full strength team once everyone’s back. If we can keep playing hard while down on troops we’ll be set up for a strong push in the middle to late season.
Cautiously optimistic.
The Good, the Bad and the Cautiously Optimistic. That's a Great Title for Our Boys! (y):D

Cuddles is actually nailing the bench usage this year if you ignore rd 1, no one is sneaking on for 5 minutes at the end, does not have Tohu anymore to try and ruin over 80 so minutes are shared around well. Laban looked impactful. Gosh Ford is a trier.

Strange game for the fullbacks, they shoulda taken Walsh off and put Cobbo back there to break a tackle on a kick return. Reecey just lying down every time really helped us pin them.

Taine got better as it went on, looked kind of slow and tentative at the start.

Metcalf clutching that hand grenade from capewell was unreal, how you can demonstrate that bit of skill and then spray a FG from right in front - what a strange player.

Hope the coaches advise on his mental game, he nailed the first one from the left, then the wind against him pushed it to the left, the next kick with the wind he thought he needed to chip it to the right and the ball stayed right, and he didn’t adjust for the next 2 kicks all going to the right

Quite amusing he chipped the winning goal from 50m out with limited wind, surely he has a SJ style bomb in him if he let it rip

nor did he land on his head..
agree, however, he was put into a position where it could have been serious injury, my initial reaction was oh oh, man the tackler is going o be in trouble, thought it was deliberate and ugly. Watched the storm v phins game thought storm going to smash the phins nix minit they got pummeled by the phins, point is I thought I knew a little bit about this beautiful game, ends up I don't know squat, thought we were gonna get a bloody good hiding from the donkeys, nix minnit, so maybe I will quietly withdraw my korero or as my kids love quoting from the movie happy gilmore ("drink a cup of shut the hell up" he he), and enjoy other korero from more learned folk on this forum, I am totally flummoxed just when I think I've got it all worked out??? (I mean everything was against us, no fish, no rts, no berry, no dwz, no chanze, tropical storm brewing, bad weather, donkies on a loss previous week, capewah playing at center, my favourite players tmm and noddy (boyd) not playing, all signs pointing to a big loss, and the boyz pull it out their arse! - chur family up the bloody wahz! - what do I know :) .

Just got back, will probably go over my thoughts later after watching the broadcast of the game. Quickly though:

Man the wind picked up after the NSW grade match, that was some weirdly strong wind for Mt smart.

Broncos lost that game in the first half. How you don't dominate field position with that wind at your back is something else. Don't think we could kick past 30m for that first half because of that wind.

But fuck it just feels good to win

The kick off in the first half that Pompey was out of position for that went out. Who kicked that Roberts or Walsh?

I thought it was Roberts.

Coaches should keep Walsh away from kick offs. He often kicks them out on the full. He did it a lot for us which would put the side under pressure. Then he'd compound it by another mistake.

I was hoping we'd kick off so we'd get field position and could put some pressure on them defensively. Instead we probably got the shortest golden point of all time.
Roberts hasn’t played for the ponies in years

Another fact that this game demonstrated is that the much vaunted Broncos pack is actually quite average once you take out Haas/Carrigan. When they went off, we started to dominate the ruck. That fightback from 18-6 to 18-18 happened as soon as they both came back onto the field.

It almost became the Storm game last year blowing a 2 try lead within minutes late in the game, they need to address making unforced errors late against these teams

This was already speculated quite a bit.

Particularly after what happened to them at home v Roosters last week.

A lot of chat during the week was that the Broncos have lacked any sort of plan B when their forward back is nullified.
