So Webster has a plan for using the left side of the field and the boys are completely ignoring him?

Webster has a plan for contesting kicks and the boys are completely ignoring him?

hoping he’s saving his secret sauce for finals but we might never get to see it at this rate.

Reluctantly I think Webby is doing the right thing by not over-reacting and making wholesale changes.

We really weren’t THAT bad last week or last night.

The results didn’t go our way and what cost us was one or two split second decisions and some bad luck.

However, expectation is high.

No excuses needs to be the motto.

It’s important for Webbys reputation and mana that he doesn’t do full SK retard mode and keeping to a broken record but continues to make subtle changes without rocking the boat.

It’s also important for Webby to come clean when he’s fucked up and got it wrong. There’s nothing worse than a coach who lives in denial. It’s the same for the players. I would have appreciated if Tohu came clean about that stupid decision to challenge so close to half time and confess he’ll learn and not do stupid shit like that again. Referring to the press conference after the game. Small shit like this makes a difference

Disagree entirely. I think the boys got desperate and started trying anything. Haven't seen any evidence that contesting kicks is a deliberate plan.

There were some desperate elements for sure:
- SJ chip and chase
- DWZ offload in his 20
- 'that challenge'

But the kicking in the red zone was certainly deliberate and I'm expecting a lot more of that considering we have a target both sides of the field.

Sat and watched the replay, just cos it was on. Think Webster is spot on, lapses that occur that need to be figured out why? Started strong again in the first 20 minutes and finished strong in the last 20 minutes and flat as a pancake in the middle. As I was going on about last week, seem to get into gear when chasing the score. But now we’re starting strong and a lapse? Do we think we can sit on the score when we get early points? Fitness no issue, titans were shot at the end and we were still charging just like we looked the freshest in golden point against manly. The fact we look to have sorted the poor starts says me me we’re closer to putting out a full 80 minute game together with the start and last 20 looking settled

In our 4 losses we have lead those matches by an average of 9.5 points. Quite staggering really.

It's the conceding of points that is the worry. 27 unanswered versus titans. 30 unanswered versus dragons. Doesn't scream resilience at all

Sorry to sound like a broken record.

Again if you analyse where those points are coming from… outside backs…. we solve a lot of the problems if DWZ knew how to tackle and CNK saved his energy more for defending the line. Montoya is a bit of a strange one for me - total rocks and diamonds at times..

I get the strategy of rushing in quick to kill the space. Heck even RTS was doing it on the wing.

But surely you have to assess and make a judgement call. Invite the ball carrier to the line and then back yourself to get him. Have a go and don’t die wondering. DWZ has zero confidence in himself and it’s so glaringly obvious. CNK is the backup if DWZ misses his man.

There’s lots of problems in lots of places. I certainly don’t blame him singularly. But there was some horrific leadership calls made too.
He is experienced and achieved representative teams and premierships. As far as a captain I have advocated in here for Addin to be captain. The only reason being...... I think it would lift the team.

But Webby knows individual errors and defence is sucking the life out of our first quarter of this season.

Time to respond. After a huffy nights sleep it is a shithouse state of affairs but not as bad as watching it love. We have most things we need but actually have to apply them. Roll on another tough week. It's ok to suck on the way to success. But if you're on the road to failure you don't even have to go anywhere to get there.

I loathe to say Webby was right but when he said they are losing the rucks as in we get slowed down which screws our attack. Then they get speedier play the ball so it ignites theirs. Against every and any team such dominance is paramount to setting your attacking platform. Our defence starts from dominating the tackles, so when we don't our edges and wings HAVE to compress to compensate.

As an example. When I watch Berry miss his defensive assignment it has been (sometimes) due to the middles losing the tackle and his inside blokes (SJ and Capewell) compressing in to compensate. By then every backline has a numerical advantage and Berry or DWZ have to choose which of the 2 or 3 runners they tackle

Letting teams slow the ruck is so subjective to each ref seemingly, crazy eyes Wyatt didn't seem interested in policing it much yesterday even after Ricky's tirade about Des's coaching.

Wrestling not working as well? Size differences? I wonder what it could be.

Sounds like a wise statement. What does it mean?
Its ok to make mistakes if you learn from them.

And you don't necessarily start awesome so as long as you're showing signs of progression you can be confident that you are going in the right direction towards success (Winning in our case).

Or rinse and repeat your failures if you like it that way

Oh right cheers, you confused me with the road to failure metaphor. If you don't have to go anywhere because you're already there, why would you be on a road. But that's not important right now.

Good analysis

Why are we losing the ruck is an obvious question

Is the lack of size + age slowing our ability to dominate tackles ?

Is it the opposing team who are younger and more agile?

Are they targeting specific players who they know are slow to their feet? Or injured, or inexperienced?

The ref have a large part to play also but you can’t control the ref so no point trying to fix something you can’t control

It’s cause and effect but if you can’t control your ruck and your outside get stage fright every time the ball comes their way on defense then holes open up and then it’s game over…
