I have to agree with fonzie, we must be playing busted! Look at all the elbow taping! Knees tapped! SJ back to not being a running threat and missing tackles.

I think webby is is trying to shake things up by making small adjustments. I thought the swap of Ford to the right was telling, I'm sure we will see Capewell sure up the left edge on defense next week.

I still would put Roger out one and add Pompey to take kicking duties of SJ.

Far too kind.

Hope he has a few stern words with the team internally and its not that same message.
Yep that's not going to win prems... I thought he would of after the dragons loss.
Needs to start the tough love shit... like Bennett did years ago to Lewis and others.
One other thing that gets to me is the assistant coaches... where's their accountability? They seem to hide in the background while the head coach takes the accolades or in this case shit. We all forget about them... maybe they are the real problem. Cause some of our players look like the talents been coached out of them...

I am done my rants for the evening. I am not mad at this loss. I was more ropeable last week. We didn't play that bad this week and had two dissallowed tries that they would have given to a team like the roosters.
That try where Dallin competed in the air for it I didn't think he knocked it on.
Just wasn't meant to be but for those who like ref conspiracy theories. The fact that we fought back and nearly won and made a game of it will lead to us getting better reffing decisions next week. Don't ask me to explain that dynamic it is just that the reffing mafia shaft teams who are playing badly in my experience. The fact we showed courage and gumption to fight back will help us and the fact we only lost by three and were coming home with a wet sail will give us a sliver of confidence and momentum going into next week. All is not lost Whanau.

2024 will be one of those years. Won't be in the conversation for finals. Side looks slow, fatigued already. Lots of very ordinary players, a few not up to first grade.

TMM - have seen enough. Did nothing for me last year and even less this year. Isn't a half, can't kick, can't pass. Heaps pressure on SJ by being completely ineffective.
Montoya - Nothing else to add that hasn't been said already. Not up to standard, would struggle to make any other side in the comp.
DWZ - Inexplicable errors. First try to let the Titans back in was 100% his fault. Deserves a week in reserve grade but won't have to due to literally nobody to replace him.
Berry - Is okay in defence. Offers very very little on attack. Would be fine if the side as going well (as it was last year), less fine when losing.
Ford - Looks horribly short of confidence and is virtually ineffective ball in hand. Fringe first grader at best.

Game plan was a fucking disaster. That is on the coach. RTVS looked our most likely threat early yet SJ spends the entire half bombing to the right - with literally nothing to show for it. That will have been part of their plan but the fact that there was nobody capable of re-thinking it points to very one dimensional coaching.

Defence was atrocious. That's on the players, it's an effort thing and it wasn't there.

Club has big problems, an old-ish side with some very slow, ordinary backs (primarily) and sweet F all I can see in the lower grades coming through. Which, after 30 years, still boggles the mind that Auckland struggles to produce outside backs.

It seems to be a theme this year that the offloads been killing us. Several this game (Tits first try, Fifita to Brimson, Kelly to Khan-Periera), the big long range try to Storm, they seem to be absolute momentum killers for us.

That was the Broncos primary game plan in the final last year - offload at will.

Why not just change the play so SJ stays right? And TMM takes care of the left side? I mean if SJ is on one leg why play both sides of the field?

Tuapiki could be exciting for sure but they can't go there yet. They need to change the way the top team is playing to see what works, the problem is this is not the time for it, or if it is they need to make the game changes and stick with it forbthe majority of this season?

We could do with some second faze play when barnie and AFB are on.

If nows not the time.....when is?

After a 1000 beers, got to put today into perspective. We usually lose by 50+ on this day over the past decade.

Cheers

Yeah today I think I would rather be a Warriors supporter than a Dragons supporter
Subjectively we were one disallowed try from a win.
Reading through the posts we need speed youth in attack and flexible bodies in defence
We have Newcastle Roosters and Penrith next 3 weeks
Out of those three games we need to beat Newcastle at Newcastle so we need to refresh our approach to selections and game plan

Played GC on ANZAC Day in 2015, lost that game too SJ only survivor
At least he's got company now 🥰

What does this dragons result say about us! 🤣

That's the crafty part. There's zero scheming from Webby in game. There's no exploiting weakness, just us trying to impose our same plan week after week.
Yup, there needs to be a balance between grinding and suffocating a team and asking a variety of questions in attack. That last period look at the difference a cross field kick, a grubber and a chip kick made in terms of the opposition having to react. The bomb to the 10m line and hold them there has its place but there has to get some variety. Set up and do the same to the left edge sometime maybe. 40/20 on the 4th anyone? You are right with your comments around a lack of scheming. What happened to all our little trick plays?
