Not a bad effort. 17 runs for 154m compared to Berry’s 10 runs for 94m. Also 18 tackles at 100% to Berry’s 23 tackles at 88%. 2 tackle breaks to Pompey to none for Berry. Not a lot between them

He was a solid 7

Yet to see it but I believe out top backline will be with CNK at fullback and RTS centre but I believe our 2nd strongest back 5 is the one we just played rather than Tuaupiki at fullback and I maintain that from right in the beginning. The one with CNK at the back should be strong attacking but the one we just played with Pompey at centre and RTS fullback is our best defensive back 5 I believe if CNK isn’t available. No slight in Tuaupiki as I said at the time

Ford was a beast, a perfect game. Even scored a try against a wiggling Ponga who knows what he is doing.

Good to see Berry given the green light to compete for the ball, maybe we should have assistants looking at instant replays to challenge like NBL lol, some dud calls to halt our momentum

Monty is back to vintage form, thought CHT should have passed to give him a 1 on 1 on the line

Capewah half century of tackles

CHT needs to be 14 for spine utility, and learn to cover centre. STOP SMILING lol

Roger’s triple play should be a gif lol. He needs to be a roaming centre, but he’ll need to play a few perfect games first before start roaming, last 1/3 of the season hopefully, secret weapon

Need to keep working on that last 5-10 minute brain snaps and how to defend 5 dummy runners running at you plays

If we’re talking defence. Yeah, I agree

On a side note, could we see Barney get a NSW call up this year?

Statistically so far, he’s outperformed Jurbo and D Saifiti and is in arguably career best form. For our sake I hope he doesn’t but could be a potential Smokey off the bench.
Gosh I thought you were suggesting about sending him down to NSW cup team. But seriously I don't think Madge will pick him.

So, shit symptoms cluster suggestive of a break.

Which is not always a break, he might be fine, just crippled from heavy contact to a superficial bone that does not have any packaging around it to insulate a hit.

This is one of those reports that means nothing till we see an Xray.

The number of suspected broken Femurs I have seen in club footy that turned out to be corked thighs....I tell yah...wait for the Xray.
Corked thigh? Surely not. I’ve had a 100 of those, and his injury was down by his ankle/shin area not thigh

Ford's try was great to watch for these reasons

1. Addin did the carry before the play
2. Ford's line was timed perfectly as CHT, Pompey and Montoya were all drifting left and the defence was as well. So when SJ threw the short ball to Ford it was weighted and timed perfectly. And Ford changed his line cutting to the right so by the time he got the ball all the Newcastle defenders (KP) included were drifting. Great play.

CHT's try was great to watch for these reasons

1. Addin did the carry before the play
2. Egan's impact improved us
3. CHT backed up.

CHT though almost did a Fisiiahi so yeah score then smile. Score then showboat.

I was watching this game on watchnrl at the airport with no sound so I may have missed some things. God I hate the 8pt lead with 3 minutes to go. 3 straight weeks we've had to endure that.

Firstly, it seems to me that we decided to shelve our shape during this game and play down the middle in this game. Both our first half tries came through this middle corridor. I don't think I recall us trying to put a set piece play once in this game. This seemed to be deliberate and slightly odd to me as our edge attack really troubled the Knights the late time we played them. I'm sure webby has his reasons though.

Secondly, we are lacking the killer instinct at the moment. Our middles do a good job of laying the platform for us to be leading games into the final quarter. But once there, our strategy seems to be to rather conservative: kick the other team out of the game through Johnson's kicking game and the dominant kick chase led by rocco. Worked against canberra and tonight and almost worked against Melbourne. I'd like us to try to go for that final try that kills the game off next time instead so we can start getting in the ballpark of a 13pt win. Too often we let the opposition off the hook when we have them down for the count.

Finally RTS is a machine. 275m in one game- just crazy. Puts real pressure on CNK to perform next week. Also CHT did great. Are we sure he isn't the 2nd man up rather than TMM? Probably makes more sense to have TMM start next week and have CHT on the bench again if there is any halves injury, but a good problem to have nonetheless. So much depth this year it's crazy.

I don't see "RTS or CNK at FB" as the real argument.

It's obvious CNK goes straight back in and most of us expect the team to improve with his presence.

The real arguement is that RTS simply has to be the backup.

Feel a bit for Taine, I expect him to make a move away at seasons end, he should be starting at 1 in the NRL and there are plenty of teams that should be taking a look at him.

Was there a PA at the game? Seriously didn't hear anything much yesterday and did not miss it. Not. One. Bit.
Good result, Knights were more gritty and hung in there more than I expected.
Not one team looks to be particularly firing so 2-2 isn't a bad place to be.

Honestly, a good win excellent defensive display.

Thoughts.

CNK is a better fullback for our team, than RTS.

Pompey is yesterday's man, RTS straight back to centre.

I thought Rocco wasn't his usual self this game.

Nice to have Marata back.

CHT needs to say at 14.

SJ was just a class above.
Rocco was excellent - unlucky not to score first try, beast on defence and kick chase. I thought he is a vital link in our defencez

we are a very good defensive side now. Apart from Storm game where we had them on toast before an act of god, we’ve only conceeded 16, 10 and 12 points. Keep that up and we’ll be top 2 by round 27.

Ford burst onto the scene last year, start off really well, then got the wobbles. I suspect there is a handy player there, I said that last week when he was looking shit house.
He has more of a fast twitch explosive power thing this year and is doing better at hitting holes for SJ.
I take your point about CHT smiling, but I have to say after he walked away from the game it was nice to see him show some emotion after returning.

With our defensive wall returning we are in a really strong position sitting outside the eight, pretty happy with two from four when you look at who we have played.

Hoping we keep up a fifty percent winning ratio in the coming very tough games then increase that to winning two out of three and so forth.
