might be a few humble pie eaters looking to put their pie orders in tonight.

CHT looking real nice out there.
in EVERYTHING tonight, absolute fucking corker of a game from him.

easily up there with best on field.
newcastle were good too man. important game going into the next 5.
confidence is everything.

NZWarriors.com

We have some good players doing a lot of clean up work. Or lost of little efforts. Support plays, holding the opposition up to push them into the in goal.

Guys like Barnett, Ford, Capewell and Berry. Well those are the ones I am highlighting this week. But overall across the team we have guys doing the little things like being third man in to the tackle where traditionally we'd have guys more interested in getting back the 10.

The only criticism that has ever been warranted with Webster has been his use of the bench. Replacing Lussick with CHT was instrumental in the win.
Lots of good performances but I'm particularly pleased to see Ford, CHT & Montoya provide some highlights to boost their confidence

Congrats Warrior fam.

A win is a win.

But dam points are hard to come by. They’re not given but have to be earned the hard way. The ref don’t help matters with their bias decisions.

Sorry for Metcalf but bring in TMM.

TMM, CHT and SJ on the field could be special.

RTS proved again his value is at FB. CNK to Center.

Let’s not use Pomp’s again unless we’re all out of options. He’s like an old man on crutches with the ball.
Mate you completely missed the fact that our try line defence numbered up with ease thanks to having a boss defender like Pompey on the weak edge.

We looked like last year as a defensive wall, I wish we had Pompey over RTS at center Vs the Storm in those last minutes.

We literally constructed a lead then backed our defence versus the clock to make an eight point deficit impossible to overcome. Much like our method last year to lock down two points in games.

RTS can be better at center but he has a long way to go to match Pompeys defence.

A good win because we won. Tempered by losing Metcalf which was counter tempered by CHT going well with TMM in line which should look like TMM starting next week with CHT in the same bench role in my opinion.

Now about Roger to FB permanently.........

No thanks. CNK is the missing link to igniting our backline attack. Roger was awesome and I don't dispute that. But the CNK fullback play is what we need from our fullback. It's a nice problem but I've voiced my opinion.

Now back to the game. Great victory. Well done team.

I dunno, given where we are in the year I think we played really well.

We didn't blow them off the park and at times our attack looked clunky. I thought our defence was great though. We look like a champion team to be honest, we keep turning up for each other. And that's with ANOTHER spine reshuffle mid game. Our attack will come, but that D is looking really good and that's the most important thing

Shout out to Jackson Ford. So good. Finally putting the errors away and showing everyone how good he can be

I was saying last week that he really could be one of the top edge forwards in the comp. Runs great lines, is one of the fittest at the club, and is all effort.
His stats this year are looking elite already, just needed to cut those penalties and dropped balls out and he looks great.

When I really think about it and naively expected a 13+ win, Newy imo are a potential top 8 side as the season waxes on despite their 1/4 so I’ll take it.

Man CHT looked like he never left. Cool calm 1% player.

Our trajectory is still building, lots of position shuffles (2/4 is more than acceptable) the boys play like their life depends on it and we have DEPTH.

Made me feel like I’m glad Im not a Souths fan.

Pompey is the type of player who helps top 4 teams win. He makes those around him look better and creates momentum for the team. Great game by him.
In defense yes, but he's not a premiership winning centre sorry Wrighty. And that pains me to say as I was a fan of his.
He's a big dude, he should be breaking more tackles and creating more for his outsides. He is a solid dependable guy that all teams need in the background. But not a first choice for me IMHO

Quite a few thoughts…
RTS still a bit rusty at the back but it’s to be expected but regardless of rust, he’s such a great player to have, you always feel like he’s gonna create something from nothing.
Egan controls the ruck so well it’s night and day between him and Lussick. I honestly feel like CHT should start at the 14 over Lussick from now on, he just provides more impact and can cover more positions.
CHT man oh man, call me biased because of those Toa Samoa days but what a game from him, it feels so good to see him play to his potential he showcased from his rookie days back in 2019. Always believed in this kid and despite the rough patches (very rough patches) I’m glad to see him smiling and enjoying his footy again. His defence is always AWWWNNNN.
Montoya what a game of footy to bounce back from last week especially from some of his errors on defence. Ran hard and tough and scored that sweet try too.
Dallin… what can I say man, he’s gotta be one of the most consistent high performing wingers in the comp rn.
Ford, Capewell and Harris absolute workhorses getting through a bunch of work on defence. Especially Capewell jeez what was it 50 something tackles my gosh.
Bunnies next week though which is a significantly harder test than the Knights despite the losing record they have. They have so many weapons to punch through us, it could get ugly. But if the Wahs are the contenders I think they are, they’ll be able to get the two points from them. Until then just gotta pray it comes true!
Nice post. Reminded me of a couple of things.

RTS - how many knights players had their ankles broken by his fast stepping? Had a few of them grasping at air.

CHT - people bagged him previously but don't forget what kind of team he was playing in and the coaches he had. Must be a revelation coming in to the organisation as it is currently

He was a solid 7

The team avg.
Yet to see it but I believe out top backline will be with CNK at fullback and RTS centre but I believe our 2nd strongest back 5 is the one we just played rather than Tuaupiki at fullback and I maintain that from right in the beginning. The one with CNK at the back should be strong attacking but the one we just played with Pompey at centre and RTS fullback is our best defensive back 5 I believe if CNK isn’t available. No slight in Tuaupiki as I said at the time

Ford's try was great to watch for these reasons

1. Addin did the carry before the play
2. Ford's line was timed perfectly as CHT, Pompey and Montoya were all drifting left and the defence was as well. So when SJ threw the short ball to Ford it was weighted and timed perfectly. And Ford changed his line cutting to the right so by the time he got the ball all the Newcastle defenders (KP) included were drifting. Great play.

CHT's try was great to watch for these reasons

1. Addin did the carry before the play
2. Egan's impact improved us
3. CHT backed up.

CHT though almost did a Fisiiahi so yeah score then smile. Score then showboat.

I was watching this game on watchnrl at the airport with no sound so I may have missed some things. God I hate the 8pt lead with 3 minutes to go. 3 straight weeks we've had to endure that.

Firstly, it seems to me that we decided to shelve our shape during this game and play down the middle in this game. Both our first half tries came through this middle corridor. I don't think I recall us trying to put a set piece play once in this game. This seemed to be deliberate and slightly odd to me as our edge attack really troubled the Knights the late time we played them. I'm sure webby has his reasons though.

Secondly, we are lacking the killer instinct at the moment. Our middles do a good job of laying the platform for us to be leading games into the final quarter. But once there, our strategy seems to be to rather conservative: kick the other team out of the game through Johnson's kicking game and the dominant kick chase led by rocco. Worked against canberra and tonight and almost worked against Melbourne. I'd like us to try to go for that final try that kills the game off next time instead so we can start getting in the ballpark of a 13pt win. Too often we let the opposition off the hook when we have them down for the count.

Finally RTS is a machine. 275m in one game- just crazy. Puts real pressure on CNK to perform next week. Also CHT did great. Are we sure he isn't the 2nd man up rather than TMM? Probably makes more sense to have TMM start next week and have CHT on the bench again if there is any halves injury, but a good problem to have nonetheless. So much depth this year it's crazy.

I don't see "RTS or CNK at FB" as the real argument.

It's obvious CNK goes straight back in and most of us expect the team to improve with his presence.

The real arguement is that RTS simply has to be the backup.

Feel a bit for Taine, I expect him to make a move away at seasons end, he should be starting at 1 in the NRL and there are plenty of teams that should be taking a look at him.

I’ve always loved CHT. He has been a victim of the terrible teams and coaches of past + being told as a 20 year rookie “you now have the keys to the team, but you also have no support”

He was everywhere on both sides of the ball. In one set he made four tackles. We’ve always talked up his defence but I’ve never noticed how much he actually goes looking for work. IMO he is top 5 heartiest Warriors of all time.

meh, AFB is always like that in the sheds, just a chill dude
His mrs has come in for some stick round these parts but here's a nice wee story. At the Sharks game, she was wearing an AFB shirt. (I think she must have a family ticket allocation in our row.) I didn't know who she was, so I said, "Cool shirt. He's my lad's favourite player." She says, "He's my husband." and we had a wee laugh. Last night, she brings along one of last year's training jerseys - the ones the players used - signed by AFB to give to my kid. Really sweet of her, I thought.

1. Everyone played well 1-17, particularly on D.
2. CNK will lock the attack together and stop the cross field crabbing.
3. Berry continues his improvement. He is starting to impose himself now. He kept one of the premier Centers in the game in check.
4. The scramble defence was outstanding.
5. Our attack will improve when they hopefully have a settled team for a few rounds with the best lineup available.
^. Unfortunate for Metcalf, but having a left footer in the Halves (CHT) is gold, look at Montoya's try.
7. This forum has a bad habit of underestimating other teams. There are no easy games.
8. I thought the Bench was immense, all added to the team performance when given the chance.
9. The crowd were the 18th player.
10. Tohu is God.

I know the main goal is to win a premierships, and don't get me wrong i'm extremely excited about the possibility of that prospect.

But i'm almost as equally excited about just becoming a consistent footy club. Where juniors have a pathway to come up through and we get to see the best of them by being a well run, well coached club. This won't happen overnight ofcourse, as we don't have the junior funding from the NRL that the Aus clubs have. But we have the right people in the right places for this to become a reality at a smaller scale with our current owner.

Besides a premiership, all of us long term fans have only ever wanted a team that turns up and has a crack week in and week out for 80 minutes every season. We've finally got that in the short term, and the way you hear Webby speak he loves it in NZ and wants it to become a long term situation.

Just sitting back watching the replay this morning of another full house at Mt. Smart. Not ashamed to say got a little bit emotional realising just where the club is at in such a short period after the lows we've fought through since 2011 with a minor blip in 2018.

I was at the game, bay 39 upper east stand. The crowd were magnificent, really into the game and supporting the team. The relative silence of the ground announcer was heavenly, and the drummers joining in when the crowd organically broke into a chant was exactly what it should be, it reminded me of the old days.

Kudo's to Webster and the coaching staff for the last minute switcharoo with CHT on the bench at the expense of Lussick. Chanel was brilliant as others have said.

I thought in general we dominated them and created many more chances. I really like the contesting of the kicks and also the running the ball on the last tackle close to their line.

Wade Egan cut them to shreds. To shreds! Really impressed with his 80 shift and he makes a massive difference.

Our kick returns were fantastic. DWZ is fearless and the meters he made, along with the other outside backs, we instrumental in the victory.

Jackson Ford played his best game in a Warriors jersey that I can recall. I like the balance that he (and Capewah) brings to our pack to complement the ball playing of Tohu and Walker.

Marata and Bunty brought the hurt to the field when they joined the fray. I want them to play more minutes but the coach knows best and the result speaks for itself.

Roger was giving the Knights severe tests on every carry and deserves the plaudits. I am excited about our backline next week with CNK back. It is a real shame for Metcalf but having the luxury of CHT and TMM as options will see us avoid the dud-halves curse that Newcastle suffered.

I want to give special mention to the Pompadour. He took a lot of tough carrys out of our end and generally did his job well. Ali looks like a beast in reserve grade and probably offers more X Factor that "Wets", but Pompy held his gloves up well.

For Newcastle, Ponga was a constant threat and seems to ghost through the defensive line. I thought their hooker Brailey made a difference when he came on also.

Such a great night out at Mt Smart Stadium watching the mighty Warriors earn their second straight win!

Kinda surprised at the backlash after someone posting about AFBs muted celebrations.

Some might have a short memory, but similar things were brought up last year about 2 or 3 weeks before we heard word that he requested a release.

No one's saying there's anything sinister behind it 100%, but man it makes me wonder. Certainly worth pointing out as a talking point at the very least. Seems kinda mad that this is essentially what happened last year yet there's so many making it sound like an outlandish observation
I think it is fairly outlandish tbh......there was a lot of sore and tired bodies after that fulltime hooter went, the only one really hollering it up when that final whistle went was Chanel. Credit to the Knights really they we're hitting hard and kept the intensity up all game.....at no stage were we allowed drop off in that match.....that looked like a very relieved, battered,.... and tired Warriors side at fulltime. I actually noticed in a few of his early hit ups Addin getting up a bit ginger and he was also on the bench a bit longer than he normally is......and as someone mentioned he was already getting needles before the game.......if fans want to put 3 and 1 together based on body language id imagine that combined with just playing a hard out bruising encounter a more realistic explanation for not clapping loud enough rather than something more sinister that you guys are alluding to.

Its already settled hes going, everyone knows......if he wasnt putting in on the field then id be concerned, but he clearly is.
