Honestly I think the best thing to do is to go Shaun 7, TMM 6 and see if TMM can now step it up in the 6 jersey after gaining/regaining his mojo. Maybe that's all he needed.

The niggling doubt is that SJ is the problem eh.

Like Roger is the problem.

This year it is like those two have erased Webster ball and reverted to old Warriors ball, like some cursed haunting of Warriors past that is unlocked if you bring too many of the stinky old Warriors stars back together.

Both SJ and RTS are clocking up bags full of the same complaint....doing too much themselves.....between them that means starving a lot of quieter voices in this team.

Gonna be real interesting to see what Webster does if the return of SJ and RTS and some would say Tohu sees us go backwards...that would be diagnostic.

I guess the correlation=causation parameter for drug testing would work for this scenario, super stars leading the side into dumpster fire, quieter guys alone leading C team to classic wins against 3x premiers and top 4 side, now super stars back do we see even higher tempo team abilities to pump teams, or back having those lethargic symptoms again

I really hope it's the former, and the seniors form a partnership instead of dictating terms, spirit of Treaty of Waitangi lol

Nip that idea of TMM at hooker in the bud franky boy. If Egan's career is close to being over due to head knocks. Imagine Temaire defending in the middle? Yeah, Nah, Nah , Yeah....Nah.

My understanding is the expression is to nip something in the bud, not butt, however in context your version reads fine LOL

It's hard to gauge individual player performance due to the team circumstances at the time.. Shaun not training & Webby having a game plan that hardly involved TMM. Shaun was it. Players like Roger learning a new position. Injures galore to our most experienced players. Webby's use , Or lack of use of the bench.

Team dynamics, Backrow is to old. We needed a fresh injection of youth.
Most teams working out our game plans from last year. But we continue to run with it. To predictable.

Add to all that the Fonua-Blake drama. Causing disharmony within the squad. Probably...

Having so many losses in a row, Losing so much experience. These young bucks were always coming in to prove something. And the experienced ones that were left. Were always going to lift & lead the way.
The trick was, For Webby to get everyone to buy into it. We haven't been weakened by our circumstances. We've been strengthened by adversity.
Taking Addin out was a genius move lol. We rely on Addin , Tohu & SJ too much. Take out our superstars & captain means every single player has that extra responsibility to make up for the short fall we have with them out.

We saw Jazz & Bunty play their best games of the year. Dalin ran like a madman. Ford worked his ass off. Barney lead the way up front. And we pulled off 2 unlikely wins. Even with Kosi & Lussick in the team lol.

Would the newbies continue playing like this with the stars out and keep getting us the Dubs? Probably not. But they set the benchmark. And probably set a fire under the arses of their more illustrious team mates. Stop it with the do we need SJ & Addin talk? Of course we do. Is roger passed his best? Of course not!! Class is class. Proud of the blokes that come in and did a job and jag some wins no one expected us to get.

Our depth is awesome. Those players will get the chance again. Especially if our top guys don't pull finger.

Proud to be a supporter of this club.

Wahs up!!

This old chesnut, the one where the Warriors B side win a one off (doesn't happen lots, but it is a phenomena, we see weaker Kiwis sides beat the Kangaroos then stronger Kiwi sides cop hidings) is too readily dismissed for being a 'one off'.

Which is why it is so refreshing that we completely changed the Roster, took two runs at decent opposition and beat both in a row.

A one off cannot be a two off....that just doesn't make no sense no how Jeffro.

Something has changed, and the most obvious change is the squad.

Any scientific or logical take would start the analysis with eleven player changes.....

People can see it for themselves anywho. This pair of games, has at least half of us going....well well, (In my case that includes a quiet little 'I was wrong') the call for change crowd were right.

Comes a time where you have to accept the obvious, the problem with this years under performance lands squarely on our incumbent elite veterans...they are solely to blame for the rut.

But they are also still good players, they also nearly took the Storm. Glad it ain't my call to try to stitch all these pieces into the best version of ourselves at Warriors team coaching hq.

I think this may be the genius level post Rick-O-shay was talking about. Unless you asked ChatGPT.

Perhaps if we cast our minds back to the eighties and that other game that is played here. Remember how the Haden led team that went to South Africa were banned from playing for the AB's? The young guys led by Buck, Sean Fitzpatrick and Kirk won the World Cup.

Probably not the best example 😁

Half that that 'old" team that went to South Africa was rushed straight back into the ABs including Buck, which went on to win the World Cup.
If anything probably supports the age old precedent a successful team generally is a mixture of old and young heads

That's a black & white answer & has merit but...
Anybody see Bellamy's presser this weekend gone? Storm lost and he brought up the short turnarounds, especially if it involves travel. Results in injuries and impaired performance & says if a short turnaround is a must (would like to see them done away with altogether) but if unavoidable travel should be nullified for the team affected. You don't have to like/agree with how he does things but he has a point. And he was talking about two games!

From 31 March to 19 April (20 days) Warriors played 4 games, 2 home, 2 away. And don't forget one of those games went to golden point.
Any other club got those issues??
We already had injuries and accrued a few more during that 20-day, 4 game period.
Most of the players played 80 mins, the recently much maligned captain a case in point but not the only one.
What worked last year was a rotation where the bench gave the engine room time on the bench to refresh & come back on like in '23 That was missing in the short turnaround games, unlike '23.
You might argue we're a month past then but in reality those players paid & are still paying the price.
Luckily some troops back I guess but unfortunately we needed more then.

Everyones got good points & a mix of young and old is an exciting prospect but for those thinking our experienced players should bow out because they're past it?

Like to see better scheduling going forward (haven't looked at the rest of this season yet - next year at least?). With troops back hopefully we see game time and player rotation back to be competitive.
The young ones are going well but at the biz end of the season you need experience in the mix

This follows my thoughts exactly and very logical without player bias that many of us humans have. Those out injured will come back in. I think TMM will get first shot at 6…. He will never be 7 over a fit SJ. His kicking technique and distance is poor - He needs a 6 that can kick as well. He jagged his best 3 halves of football in the past 2 games…. But as this poster has said - it was on the back of all players lifting and some putting in their best performances. That is hard to replicate game after game. Imagine what we could have done with 20m more on every kick!

Who I believe really showed their value was Jazz and Pompey. I believe they will hold their positions and RTS will be moved to either right centre or wing. Montoya had his best game in a long time but if Pompey stays - then I think they will find a spot for RTS on the wing where he can do what he does best…. Work load, kick returns and dummy half runs. With Addin back… who is our best player and with Walker being a revelation at 13, Tohu might spend more time on the bench /front row which might mean Niukore gets a spell on the edge as he also showed how much better we are with him running at their 7 ….something no one else can do like him just yet.

CHT will also have a place on the bench with TMM at 6 for now. However, I do like CHT at 6 for the left foot kick and defence with Pompey on that edge - But Webby will reward TMM at 6 for now I think. If CHT is at 6 and we have Jazz, Walker, Niukore ((if not starting) on the bench - then we would have to carry a hooker or half on the bench. That might prompt TT to jump the line as a left field option and TT or CHT can play 9 during the game if injury happens. It will be interesting to see what roles TT plays in cup to prepare him for the first team. He has played 1st and 2nd receiver a fair bit of late and kicked a lot.

Finally, Webby was prepared to move CNK around as we had TT to play fb…. Will CNK be centre or FB when we return? Or when RTS returns and where? CNK will definitely be in the 13 somewhere. We have a log jam at centre with Pompey, Berry, RTS, Ali, MGT…. Maybe Charnze? Good players will miss out.

I like a settled line up as it means we are usually playing well and everyone knows their roles…= we are settled. However, these next 4 weeks will really be interesting to see what the line-ups will be and can we ride this wave that our squad players have created for the established players! Either way…. Up the mighty Wahs!
