I thought it was for heavily back ended contracts?
https://www.nrl.com/news/2018/11/14/nrl-changes-rules-to-restrict-back-ended-contracts/

There are was a supposed ban on back ended contracts in 2018 to avoid clubs getting in stryfe in the final years. I think it was Des Hasler at the dogs who wrecked their cap for years.

But apparently it still happens

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...r/news-story/86c152d9e265b3793546cd1358fcd163

"Hooper then said “the deal is back-ended” and that Wighton will earn $700,000 then $750,000 then $900,000 then $950,000 over the next four years."

Finucane is the complete opposite though, his is front ended if we believe those numbers. Front ended contracts wouldn't have that same negative effect so maybe they're just fully allowed?

Asking the big questions:

Is the last part of BHUs name pronounced Uel"eeeeee" or Uel"ay"

Them dollar figures are just that - figures. Mostly speculation. BHU supposedly got offered $550k from the sharks? If true I'd say $550aud, and we offered $730nzd. Does that make sense or it doesn't work like that? Anyways, we need to get on board if it's a done deal.

All NRL contracts are paid in Australian dollars per NRL rules (they pay the cap so it only makes sense to avoid exchange rate fluctuations and more complex calculations.

Warriors players

A) Warriors player take home pay on 750k in AUD after NZ deductions = $473,919.25

B) Australian based NRL players Take home pay in Australia on 750k AUD = $426,849

Those figures are mine after using online calculators.

Figure A) is after taking out New Zealand PAYE and ACC.

Figure B) Is after taking out Australian income tax and their medical Levi.

As you can see a selling point of signing with the Warriors is a favorable exchange rate and 50k more on 750k after compulsory Govt deductions.

However as I am sure some of our accounting and economics posters will point out, it is not that simple given the relative cost of living and many other factors like travel home, exchange rates, currency conversion etc.

It depends in which country you are a tax resident.
If you are a tax resident of australia but play for the warriors you pay Australian deductions is my understanding.

dont think so
I ve worked Aus
Gone back to Nz
Gone back to Aus
In Nz I pay Nz tax rate
In Aus I pay Aus take rate
That's because of PAYE tax getting applied to everyone at source
But you should square up at the end of the year in your "home" country and either get a refund or pay extra.

Interesting from Spud off the Warren who is often very reliable with his info. Again this is a rumours thread so thought I’d post it here

I’ve returned from NZ!!! I caught up with my people.

1- Tom approached the club, was told to prove himself. Told them what do you think I’ve done over the past 200 games. Body is feeling good and wants to achieve 250 games. See what happens.

2- Caleb - 2025. I’ll leave that as that for now.

3- Certain players at the club were placed on diets to lose weight. All have either achieved the set goal or are close.

4- Interesting one - The club 4 weeks ago was talking with Mitch Barnett. He’s a bit home sick!!! Nothing has eventuated but I found it odd.

5- JD has a set time to achieve a KPI. Wasn’t told details of the KPI or the time but I replied that I’m guessing it’s first half of the season and I got a few smiles.

6- The club is still in constant contact with Sammy.

As always, love yas and Kia Ora.

As much as I love Barney I’d probably swap him for Tom burgess considering the balance of the squad.
