If you are in our position running 2nd on the table no coach in their right mind is massaging a young half(Cleary) into grade at halfback. TMM will 110% be the back up halfback for 2026 if Metcalf doesn't return.

What happens next year is a different kettle of fish as TMM is off contract this year, but depending on how things unfold they likely sign him for another year to bridge the gap with Metcalf gone while the young halfs develop further.
TMM has the sweetest life 😂

Think Riccio's been reading the forum! Seems to understand the Sydney media know jack when it comes to the Warriors and maybe done some homework. Hope his CHT mail is good!

The good thing is they seem to be in agreement with the club's call. That part at the end about how we make decisions for the good of the club regardless of names or status just shows how far we've come.

I am really surprised that the Aussie media seem to be approaching this as being slightly more pro-club

This was a prime opportunity to shit on the club, but they were actually kinda..... reasonable?

Well, we are doing well without Metcalf, the facts don't lie there, so it's not like they can say "See, they're being loyal to Boyd when Martin would be better/etc".
Amazing how the Warriors having a good season can make everyone like us.
Look at how it feels slowly but surely league journos are starting to look at Gus and Cameron at the Bulldogs (Legendary NRL Coach In Waiting and Mega Rugby League Brain) and say, "You guys ain't all that! No, you ain't, COBBERS!!"

What they're essentially saying is 100% true tho, no single player is bigger than the club.

Once you let a player start dictating the terms, then you are on a very slippery slope to the whole house of cards falling down.
The other aspect of that - and the Isaac Moses thing is a prime example - is you don't want too many players with the same manager/management group.
If you piss him/one of the managers from that group off, all players connected may suddenly down tools...
I'd have loved to keep Luke, but, yep, mate, bummer, you're playing 6 instead of 7. Maybe go home make a voodoo doll of Tanah or something. But freaking grow up and give it your best shot until either the doll poking works or it's the end of the season and fair enough, you gave it a go, you hated it, you want to leave.
I'd understand Luke's position a fair bit better of he'd done that.

If he can get another gig at 7, then fair enough.

It sounds like there's several suitors so Luke has to come first for Luke... I dont begrudge him for that.

But if something happens and he gets injured ala Volkman... he could very well have screwed his career prematurely..

Anasta made a good point that Boyd is a pretty simplistic number 7 that doesn't really dominate the possession. Metcalf could still have been having the most touches, much like Luai does for the Tigers.

Not to paint anyone a bad guy, but good to see that the Aussie media recognise that Lukey is being a bit unreasonable here.

Pretty useful backup to have for the rest of the season I guess.

Nah he's leaving immediately. Already gone. Not playing for us again in any grade.

The reports on 360 were that we weren't granting him a release this year because "we believe we can win a premiership this year"

They've obviously given him time off to go sort out his future. And, by the sounds of it, that means from next year onwards.

A lot of his ideal suitors wouldn't be able to fit him under the cap this year apart from Dragons (Dogs need to offload Burton and Sharks need to offload Hynes)
