Last week against Manly, Storm were kept in check for the first 40mins, then blew them from all parts of the field in the second half.

Manly weren’t even playing badly.

They seem to spot the holes, and create opportunities for themselves with quick shift in direction, contested bombs and rubbers. It’s the sort of shit you can’t defend against.

They did it against us last year at MSS. We were up in the first 15 mins but then Hughes took over with his kicks, and putting Katoa through holes. Quick passes to the blind side. It was clinical.

I honestly didn’t think we played all that bad at MSS but just couldn’t defend against their slaughterhouse attack.

But every dog has its day. I really hope it’s us today.

Cause I hate the Storm. Those A grade Aholes.

That pic of Smith addressing our team after the game. What a fucking joke. Who the hell allowed that to even happen should get a slap… 👋

This kind of hype never result in a win for us. If anything, I think it distracts the younger players from what's important come game time. Better to stay quiet and put in the hard yards. Win a few games against the top 4 and then we can talk up a big game.

I get what you are saying and in the past I would agree 110%.
I do see our new crop of young guns differently, I think confidence is their friend, I think they need to channel it and embrace it.

The key difference, the reason the calculus has changed, is these kids coming through are more footballer than athlete (they are tremendous athletes but they have it between the ears).

And Webster is brining them on slowly, very slowly, as such they are well managed and should pump it up, feed off the power, hit the adrenaline switch, bring the energy unchecked - there are enough checks and balances in the Cappy/Webster development system to allow for them to hit FG and go for it.

This is exactly what is happening with Halasima, he has could have come off the bench last year. Ali could have been persevered with like other NRL coaches (Wayne and those kinda guys - certainly Robbo and his throwing children to the wolves approach) would have tried Ali in FG last year for an extended spell.

There is no doubt there is something brewing for this game. The comments by the fans in this thread are the greatest posts I have ever seen in a game day thread such is the meaning of this match for legacy reasons.

There is one game you forgot Undertaker in your recount of heart breaks. Round 7 2019 Storm 13 - Warriors 12.
Led into battle by our young half back CHT with the senior Tohu Harris at stand off in the greatest game certainly I ever seen in the regular season the Warriors battled to an unlikely winning position. We had a storm player in a surrender tackle but the ref blew us for a penalty for lying in the ruck. Naturally we got an apology after the game and victory went undeservedly to them.

In the stands amongst the 30,000 at AMI park will be 8-10,000 Warriors faithful who live in the Melbourne area or have travelled to the game from other parts of Australia. They will represent the Warriors nation and barrack as hard as they can even though completely outnumbered by the Storm home crowd.

Buckle up Warriors fans. Every time we play the Storm history writes a new chapter and win lose or draw today will be no different.

God speed Rocco Berry - may you play well and not be too rusty. Not asking for much. Just hold up your end and make your spot tackles stick.

DWZ and Monty brain explosions played a huge role in the second half. We were well in it (20-18 I think) before the first sin bin.

To ground myself in realism for this game, I just forced myself to watch the last 5 minutes of our rd 2 match against them last year. Also the 2nd part of the first half of the mt smart game last year where we blew a 14-0 lead and had our edges destroyed by Hughes and co. Best to prepare your soul for the worst but hope for the best. Boys just have a crack. No shame in a respectable loss away to the likely premiership winners.

So long as we don't suffer whatever malaise fueled that Vegas trip (what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, I am certain there was Redbull, sleeping pills, Hunter S Thompson and Giant bats on that trip - and that's just the coaches and owner) I jest...sort of....so long as we don't try fk ourselves over before we do it to them we should be in it.

How did the dragons get there win? Was there any weakness we could exploit, didn't watch it so not sure, but i'm sure the coaching staff has had a look, I think limiting Grant around the ruck would help but they have so much danger in their spine, someone else will step up... But as St George showed they are beatable... Is this our last hoodoo? Let's get off our back.... Go Warriors

What is so difficult about playing the storm is that it takes 80 mins to beat them but only 5-10 minutes to lose to them. Any period, not matter how small, of defensive lapses could result in 20+ pt swings if we aren't careful. Our defensive spacing concerns me with Berry coming in and jigging up the whole backline.

I was at the Vegas game- the boys were joking with each other during the warm up, so I had a feeling their physicality would be off for that game. When the boys come out to warm up today, I'll be looking to see how intense they are.

No Hughes goes a long way, I think there win rate goes down by a massive 30% when he doesn't play.

The usual way.
The rub of the green went the Dragons way, a bunch of Storm Try's were disallowed due to pure hard luck/bounce of the ball.

The Dragons made it personal early shirt grabbing etc.

The Storm in their early season iteration were cruising in that match and made small but fundamental errors in their defensive reads (not taking the man with the ball, anticipating a shift when the runner didn't pass and sliced through.

In other words they got the little things wrong, very reminiscent of when we have beaten them, way back when (everything goes our way).

Now for mine that is why Webster is the guy, he has the game plan to contain the Storm, Webster ball is very much kick and contain and wait for them to give up those small opportunities - i know, i know we have been losing under Webster against them, but at least his game plan is competitive v them specifically, I dunno how to impress this any more on people, but if the Warriors go into Storm games with a competitive coaching plan....fk me that is the Warriors I want to support, that is the Warriors that need to stick to their guns and get better at the simple game plan they have and stick with their coach long term.
