We're we winning in the first half?
Players leaving, versus players coming in, 2 vs 0 origin players this year, players like SJ, Barney, DWZ' coming into this season off the back of arguably one of their best forms in 2023. We were OBJECTIVELY better this year, on paper.
You are correct, though, nothings won on paper.
Not trying to be disrespectful, but I couldn't follow the analogy, I'm sick as a dog at the moment.
RTS is not the reason this season went the way it did. This is an isolated case. Attitude is a team thing.
Lemme go back a bit here. My irritation is that it's fairly common for people throw everything purely on the coach. I believe that it's very disengenuous to do so as ultimately the players are on the field from start to finish.
Does that mean Webby is exempt from criticism? No.
But. When you have the ability to pull win out of your ass when you're very much down, there's something funny going on with the attitude there. Being an adult means managing your own attitude. You need to handle your ups, your downs and your own resilience.
That last dragons game is a prime example. Would I blame flanno? No. That one is perfectly placed on the players.
I can 100% say that in a perfect world where Barnett can be cloned into a full team, we'd be hitting finals every year. Might even slot a few more kicks at goal too..
Ok, first of all effort does not guarantee a result. So saying the reason we win or lose is down to simply being effort is nonsense. Giving 100% effort doesn't give you the right to win, it only gives you the opportunity to win.
Secondly, I'm not blaming anyone, though many bear some responsibility for the season and performance. What I am saying is put more effort in isn't the answer that solves the problems.
We can argue about the players coming in and the ones that left, but objectively it certainly looks like losing Curran and Sironen off the bench and bringing in
RTS for a center position that hasn't worked have made us worse, as examples. Lets be clear here, I am not blaming
RTS for the season. However, in a high performance arena where everyone has to do their role, having
RTS, as the example, struggling to adapt has flow on effects and it doesn't matter how much effort or extra effort you put in to correct it. Sometimes it makes it worse because you are focusing effort and energy to compensate which detracts from other areas.
My analogy was a poor attempt to say that if you have several issues that are hindering you from being competitive there is only so much effort you can put in to try and overcome it. And often times it can look like a disaster despite of this and people can get the impression that it wasn't there at all.
For me, pulling a win out of your ass in the last game of the season in the last 30 minutes with literally nothing on the line and against 12 players for 10 mins isn't an indication of anything.
For me the effort has been there for the most part all season. Injuries, players in the wrong position, robotic gameplan, selections of certain injured players instead of others, bench use, the ability of certain players etc etc all play a bigger part and can appear to impact effort or attitude or chemistry or whatever you want to call it.
I can 100% guarantee that a team of cloned Barneys doesn't win many games at all - effort will be there but so one dimensional and lacking in other areas that wont be made up for, but that kind of highlights my point that its more than just effort.
