We can win and they will be nervous of us.
Need more out of TMM when he comes on for his twenty minutes at the end of games. Want to see him leading the kick chase and 2-3 tackles per defensive set.
Exactly Wrighty.

Sticking my neck out here but I think the Sharks fear us and especially at their home. Our record there lately is not too bad. They are a bunch of loud mouth bullies who like to posture but with not much skill, led around by a wannabe half who should be plying his trade in Reggies. If I was Webby, I'd play Kosi anywhere in the team.
No matter who is out we are a far superior side to them. AFB will be crapping himself with JFH giving him the assassin smile and asking where's the brownies?

I think we're up for this and will make a statement. Still want to see more of Healey

14. TMM
15. Ford
16. Demi
17. Laban

Webby will probably make Leka play 80 for this one and have Cape covering centre for his work rates. Ali might still be injured missing this weekend

Demi is turning it on hopefully he can continue to provide Leka’s x-factor, Laban for his big body and attacking bombs

Who are their centers for Cape to dunk on?

Big game this. If we win this, I think our position in the 4 is secure. From what I can see, the one threat currently outside the 4 that could conceivably force their way in is the sharks. Win this, we are 6 pts ahead of them with a bye to come. I'd say this is our hardest game for a few months before the dogs game. So a win here, which is more than possible based on sharks dodgy form, would set us up nicely.
Their team ravaged for wingers with Mulitano and Stonestreet out. High kicks to the corners may pay off.

Bunt isn’t up to standard, his effort in and around the ruck in defence is ordinary imo. Most effective option is start Laban and let Leka bring that impact. They can share the right edge role. I prefer Niukore on an edge in attack but it is what it is..

I’m not a fan of tmm at 14, feel like he offers nothing. Either Healey or TT would provide more impact. This week I went with Healey against his old club and also if Egan isn’t 100%

I believe that Nikouere is far more effective on the edges than as a middle forward. He is now forming a relationship with Metcalf.
Disagree, his lateral movement is zero. Overlaps often occur on his side while playing edge as players outside him have to jam to cover the space he can’t. Teams don’t have numbers but because of his lack of sideways movement and inability to accelerate to cover ground overlaps happen. Even small steps often leave Niukore arm grabbing. Koloamatangi’s try in the weekend happened in part due to Niukore missing his assignment in helping Metcalf, Koloa made offered a small step inside and that was all it took for Niukore to miss. He runs hard but he can do that in any position and at this point I’m more inclined to back Leka to break the line than Niukore. Being in the middle allows more room for error on his part with more defenders able to help.

I like this squad against the sharks
They have quite a bit of size up the middle so we need to match it with Bunty
Thank you for your endorsement.
Bunty has experience. And he is quite good if we tell him to go out there for the opening twenty minutes and then a short spell later. Where he falls away is if you ask him to play a long stretch of minutes. He is at this best when starting. I also think when the team look to their left and right before the game seeing Bunty will fill them not necessarily with confidence but certainly it will be a solid feeling for team morale.

I think this could be a different issue to just normal injury cover. Whoever is picked to replace Barney is going to be there for the whole year (assuming no injuries). That's at least 12 games excluding possible finals and bye training. That is a lot of time to improve week in, week out. So really here we are deciding on a much bigger change.

So this is how I see our options (in order of what I'd prefer):

Moving Marata to prop with Leka and Laban sharing second row.
+ Would give Laban a lot of NRL-grade reps.
+ Gives us some "Katoa"-level aerial threat, which I think needs to exist when you have two halves sharing the kicking.
+ He will get better quickly.
+ He has already played a bit, even in a big arena with the All Stars. So he will settle in quickly.
+ Marata IMO is a better prop than TSS, Bunty and Ale.
- Metcalf isn't being given time to get used to an edge. Centers swapping out, now second rowers are coming and going. To make it a 50/50 (could be 65/35 if we make it a three-second-rower rotation, each getting 55-65 mins). That is a lot of strain on any half.
- Having two inexperienced second rowers will make it harder to move Capewell to center if an injury happens, as that might be overdoing it – asking two inexperienced players to do more minutes than they were expecting.

Moving Ford up into the starting 13 with TSS going onto the bench.
+ Would give TSS a lot of NRL-grade reps.
+ TSS is a workhorse and is very much based on the JFH style of player. A real wrestler.
+ He will get better quickly.
+ He looked at home against the Dolphins. Nothing like other rookie props I've seen.
+ He is 21, the same age as Vaimauga. If he thinks he can get that engine to do this week in and week out, I back him.
- The hard and easy part about rookie props is that you're meant to give them a couple of first-grade games to adjust. Only a few freaks can handle that kind of punishment week in, week out this early in their career. So although he did great on his debut, I feel like doing it for 14 weeks minimum would burn him out.
- With the above, you'd be asking him to do fewer minutes and therefore asking Ford, Vaimauga and JFH to do more – plus any other prop who comes in to fill a role.

Putting in the old guard (Bunty or Ale; my preference would be Ale as I think he has a higher ceiling).
+ Very consistent.
+ Changes very little for set plays and combinations.
+ Safe – just very safe.
- They will improve with more reps but not massively or very fast.
- Any improvement gained/combinations started won't be used in 2026 outside of possible injury cover.
- These guys are still fundamentally useful as normal injury cover. The prefect injury cover is guys who are safe and consistent. The two above aren't that kind of player.

I think it’s time to fast track Laban therefore move Marata to prop which was the plan anyway. Laban is the long term prospect and Marata has the experience, size and aggression to be a leader in the middle.

Unfortunately Afoa and Ale are probably not in the plans and TSS is too raw

Ale should be the man imo. If we have Ford, Fish, Marata and Maybe TSS in the middle they’re all Straight up and down middles not many offloads. Ale and Demi will mix up the middle quite well both have footwork and love an offload.
Buntys solid depth but has had a lot of chances while being pretty ordinary, Ales time now.

I really like the impact that Ford, Leka, and Demi bring off the bench, so I'd be reluctant to change that.

Essentially swapping Barney for Laban would cost us too many meters imo. Laban will get his moments but I feel we'd be losing more than we gain by swapping Marata to the front row.

I would seriously consider bringing in Ale/Bunty into the front row (my preference is Ale because at least he's making big meters in Cup) and having TSS on the bench to help cover the loss of Barney.

Yes, that means no TMM there, but he seems to be there mainly as cover. No point having cover there when there's a gaping hole up the middle that needs shoring up

My guess is Webby will move Marata to prop, Leka to starting edge and bring in Laban or TSS to the bench and keep TMM tho. Hope I'm wrong!
