Team List Sharks v Warriors - [Round 14, 2025]

Btw hope CNK can maintain his pace/power we look so much better offensively when he played like that in the weekend 200-300m, backing up, stepping and scoring
I like how he was on both sides on attacking plays too. First time I’ve seen him down the left side as he only seems to link on the right for some reason..
and threw a nice cut out to Pompey as well, who got ran down pretty quick lol

Ya it was weird Pompey took a few runs on the wing, don’t know where Roger was when we wanted that acceleration

AFB is coming after JFH. I hope he's ready. I know he will be.

Gamesmanship eh.

It suits them if we are dumb and target their pack with physicality. That is where they live, well before AFB joined them.

The Sharks have always been about mongrel forwards. You don't want to get into with them.

The way we beat them is speed. High tempo, same as we have done since Webster took over.

They can waste all their time with the big body contact, we reply with line speed.

They can get niggly in the ruck hold players down, we can reply with dummy half runs, offloads and fast play the balls.

I think that is more the Flanagan era sharks when they had Gallen, Ennis, Lewis, etc. The modern sharks pack really doesn't have many enforcer types. I'd even go as far as to say that the most mongrel player in the modern sharks team is actually their winger (Mulitalo) who won't even be on the pitch tomorrow.

Their style these days seems to be less grindy and more side to side. They rely so much on their outside backs for meters and usually start shifting the ball mid field. Other than AFB, none of their current forwards are big meter eaters. Their other starting prop (Kaufusi) only averages 78m per game. Other than AFB, no-one else lining up for that Sharks pack should have us quaking in our boots.

Can't believe they didn't resign Royce Hunt and kept that BHU injury prone guy lol, AFB, Hunt, Hazelton would be more intimidating

It's natural that AFB will want to lift against us. First game against his old club. JFH will hopefully do the same for us in a few weeks up against Penrith.

AFB has been getting a lot of hype this year. To be honest, I thought his Warriors form was better, but he's now in the Sydney spotlight compared to being out of sight, out of mind here. Also, our form last year meant we weren't getting a lot of attention.

As we know from his time here, he has a big motor and can play big minutes. To do that he gets around the field well and conserves energy at times. The Levels Network Podcast pointed out a few weeks ago about a few areas where Fitzgibbon would be onto him about mainly his kick chase where he was dropping behind his teammates. If we can keep the ball in play or make him work, there may be instances where he doesn't put in as much effort (same goes for his teammates) or he may take a fewer hitups.

Hunt's form with wests makes it clear why they didn't re-sign him. Benji has been starting him over the last 2 weeks and it's clear that the guy can't play more than 10-15 minutes before he is gassed. You can't carry a forward like that in your side, whether starting or on the bench, no matter how good he is in that 10-15 minute stint.

They are a lot better to watch now compared to the Gallen years.

They score a lot more tries from long range now. Instead of bringing sides down to a grinding game like they would years ago.

To me, they are more dangerous now. On the plus side we've had some good wins against them recently.

Why did we sign Fish again? And give Jacko his million! 🤣

(j/k)

tbf to Jacko, one of those games he got concussed so missed half that game (Dragons game). If you remove that game from the average, his average running meters are closer to 150m which is great for a middle (starting or bench). As for Fish, his last game was a bit poor (76m), but his overall average is ok (around 120m). That's basically the average he had when he played at Penrith. In that system, neither he or Leota were big meter eaters and that was ok because of their back 5. So the role of pack was more defensive oriented. I'd say the same is true for us given that most of our meters also come from our back five. So it's ok to having starting props like Barney and Fish who aren't really big meter eaters and more defensively oriented.

Hard with the rabid fans at Shark Park too - they're well educated in manipulating the ref.
It must be intimidating having thousands of people that have 2-3 front teeth missing, yelling at you for 80 minutes. The referees do well at making out what they are saying.

this was basically the dogs game plan back in round 4 when they belted them at shark park. Isolate AFB on D and gas him out so he has nothing on attack. AFB is the head of the snake that is the shark's pack. Cut off that head and the rest of the snake will follow. Winning the battle in the middle is also psychological: JFH and Erin have to do what they did to the Phins pack and get inside AFB's head. I don't mind giving away the odd high tackle penalty throughout the game if the signal is sent that we're going to come after them physically all night.
I hope no snakes have their heads cut off.
