General Mt Smart Stadium

Outside of this just being a cathartic way to talk about somthing i've been thinking about, for other regulars, what is your line between a loud good crowd and loud obnoxious fans?
Guy sounds like a wanker, boomers and their phones can be worse than teens these days.

But you raise an interesting point, I’ve been told once outright “fuck up with the running commentary” and other times dirty looks, when I complain out loud about something, usually the ref. Both union and league. What do people want? sit their in silence? Sit their chopping drinks and shuffling back and forth to the bar 3 times in a half?

Kiwi crowds are the pits sometimes, I’ve only been to mt smart a few times but at least you making noise shouldn’t stand out. You can listen in on someone’s whole life story with the lack of atmosphere at the cake tin

In a way It feels a little like NIMBY-ism. Want to go to a game with a loud/lively crowd. But they don't want those people right next to them because they're too loud.

Been season ticket holders in the exact same spot for ages now (quite hard to move 6 people further in when some memberships lapse.). And over the last season and this one, a new family is now sitting in front of half of us. Normally it's just a dad and his kids which is all good. But sometimes, it looks like his old man comes as well. Now i'm quite a vocal guy, I do swear every now and again at the ref. No slurs or anything of the like, just a "fuck off ref", "bullshit". So i understand if others want me to shut up a bit. Which i have done in the past when asked. But this time it was a bit weird because that old man who occasionally sits with that family started to sneakly take pictures of myself and some of my mates. Post those same photos to some people and then those people would talk about how much they wanted to punch me the face. Might of been happening before, but this time my partner was sitting behind him. And as she is only a bit of fan, was more interested in why someone was taking photos of me instead of the game. Which weirdly i'd have only a small issue about if it was said to my face, and would of settled down during the raiders match if talked to about it. But because it wasn't face to face, it kinda striked a nerve.

Now i let my mates and partner leave just after the song but i stayed behind to talk to the guy. Told him that he should just of said somthing instead of taking pictures and talking online. More than happy to settle down as we're all fans here, i'm not gonna get into a fit of rage if he just asks. Dude just looked shocked, said yeah mate then went stright into the crowd.

I really don't wanna make going to a league game awful for anyone. Thats why outside of it being a bit of a snake way to go about things, i don't hate the old dude (unlike my partner who was furyious) He very likely just wants to enjoy the game and atmopshare the same as anyone else. And previously i thought as long as im not the worst person in earshot i should be fine. In this case that would be the group of blokes behind us yelling "fuck off you ranga cunt" anytime horse had the ball. But after this experience i'm not 100% on where the line is. What area are you in?

I'm a bit of a yeller but try and keep it relatively PG, mainly the usual ref complaints to try and give the boys some home advantage. Not being brave enough to tell you face to face is crazy especially when confronted, seems a cowardly way to do it.

Is their areas that are meant to be a bit more for loud fuckwits like myself? Cause if so im happy to talk to the membership team. But we've been top of east stand, bays 36-38.
I'm also in that area. Don't worry about it, I've been loud from lower east, upper west and the last few years the upper east.

I haven't been this year yet but I've had similar experience in the same general area - me getting over excited and then some sideways comments about it, never direct - it's irritating but like you i'm not there to disrupt so i do adjust - idk man, i do feel there's a streak of non-tolerance in some of our fellow fans for joy or it's evil twin, frustration, which the warriors bring out in me and is the primary reason why i follow the team/the sport at all

Don't bring me into this. I was at home watching with my kids.

If I was there judging by how my young fella reacted last year. I'd be trying to stop him getting a mob to storm the field. Had a few bad calls last year and he was making a bunch of new friends.

I was in Bay 36, Row X this past weekend. Plenty of carry-on in the crowd. Raiders fans copping a playful lashing, Warriors fans losing their minds, a token drunk being loud and hilarious. The whole area loved it. Sounds like you were seated next to a wank stain

Have noticed at local footy (in Aus) there’s been a massive push to change culture around sideline/supporter behaviour last couple of years. Used to be have a few drinks and a bit of heckling/banter towards the opposition- Now there’s a pretty fine line you can’t cross and if there’s anything directed towards a player or official that could be considered ‘abuse’ your outta there and the club has the potential to be docked competition points.

Not saying this flows into NRL etc but I do wonder whether there’s a bit of a culture shift, I’m up there as a vocal/passionate fan but also gotta read the room a bit and self regulate if maybe you’re going a bit over the top - alcohol also distorts perceptions of if you’re as funny/restrained as you think you are ;) . Gotta take advantage of the home crowd advantage and have a good time though

Correct, Magic designated as a 'home' game for us vs Broncos (the away team 😂). We also play them again in Brisbane for the regular 'away' game for us.
As if the boys don't have enough travel, that's three extra chunks of multiple days away from family. And of course 3 less games for the Mt Smart faithful. But, a club decision....

I was just amused that 3/9 actual home games are already done for the year with only 4 rounds gone.
