I gave it an F for frustrating.Everyone has said what I was going to add.I think maybe dreams a better word that we will come out in nxt weeks home game and put on a winning performance then after that well every dog they say has its day.It will just have to be a bunch of totally mongrel ones.

That’s why I wonder about Metcalf at fullback? His speed is his strongest suit and follows the ball and ball carrier well. His kicking was solid and he really made a go of it after saying in preseason that he wanted to take the role on at halfback but it’s going to be interesting to see the direction with a few halves off contract end of next season?
Tbh since i first saw Metcalf when i was following SJ at the Sharks ive always maintained his skills are ideally suited to the modern day fullback (which was where they were playing him)

That bridge has probably been burned now. I do think there's a bit of rose tinted glasses going on that our attack was somehow "humming" under Metcalf. Its been clunky all season. He's certainly had a better than expected kicking game but his best moments are mostly support based indivdual plays highlighting his speed. and running game....but no doubt we're a better team with him no matter where he plays.

I don't get all this talk about Metcalf to fullback. He was the best 7 in the comp before he was injured and had us sitting top 3. He was pretty much 100% of our attacking spark most of the time. He made other players in our team look good who we can clearly now see have massive deficiencies.

Also the defensive side of the game is completely different at fullback. Yes he can chase down players with speed but there is a lot more to it than that. He was also chasing players down when he was playing halfback. I could see him being injured more often playing fullback also.

For me if he has not lost his speed he goes to 6 when Jett comes into the team at 7. We look to phase CNK out over the next year or two when a better prospect comes along.

As mentioned in his biography in here, he can play fullback as well as halves and has done so plenty in his career. The fact it’s gone so quiet on an extension when they were in talks before his injury makes me wonder if either party are having reservations? If we were looking to exploit his X factor being speed, from fullback is where I would be interested to see him play. Broken field he’d be devastating

That was just unfortuante on that Capewell break.

At first i was wondering why he was on the wing then i remembered their policy is for the edge backrowers shifting to to the wing on early hit ups.
Roger had done the hit up in the middle of the park from which they spread the ball to Capewell so he was pretty much out of the play, then it required quick hands from both Chanel and Pompey to get it to Capewell who were both checked/tackled after passing which took them out of the frame tbh.....,.to be fair i honestly didnt think Capewell could run like that.....it was almost comical.

It might be unfair on CNK who plays a totally different game but a Walsh, Kini, or Weekes fullback are sniffing around most carries....im sure u wouldve seen one of them latch on that,
CHT should have been there. Passed him the ball then watched him run away.

Still think we’ve shown some decent shape in previous weeks where we were stripping teams for numbers, even in the loss to the dolphins. That game had CNK at centre and I think he would have been better suited to go to centre last night than Halasima. Would have meant TMM to fullback, so it couldn’t have happened with TMM spelling Healey. Halasima did an admirable job though
I was wondering if AW might have moved CHT to 9 and TMM in to the halves at some point last night to try and get us going a bit more.

Feeling quite deflated this morning about this team.
The score doesn’t really tell the tale of the game, seeing a 1 point loss you’d think we were in an arm wrestle at least but that was one of the worst performances in a long time- it was an extremely hard watch, I was close to turning it off out of sheer boredom, certainly glad I decided against making the trek out to watch that shitfest live.
It’s been like watching a train wreck in slow motion watching the slow decline of the season after laying a very good platform in the first half of the season, apart from the odd sprinkle of light the rot has just been getting worse.
Sure I would have taken a top 8 finish at the start of the season but we are just delaying the pain another week is all sadly. It’s been tough listening to the pundits talk of our team not deserving to be where they are but it’s kinda hard to argue now on current form

Well tell me who you you would have. Harper defensively is superior to others. Attack wise he has also stepped up and proved he is a possibility. Don’t know if you have been watching his games but I can’t see who you would be putting ahead of him. FYI - I have watched every nrl and naw cup game

Or Taine to FB and CNK to centre. That’s prob more like it

Anyone remember Wade McKinnon?
He had the greatest explosive speed and could score tries from anywhere on the park

Then got an ACL injury or something similar and when he came back all that explosive speed that made him great was gone…..

I watched an NPC game last week for the first time in years and was staggered by the athletic ability and skill the players showed. It was actually interesting to watch!

Where a few years ago league was entertaining over boring union, the way our sports going with defensive game plans and taking out the contests (not contesting kicks, not grubbering to the in-goal, etc) the sports getting boring!

As great a coach as Webster is and having made the finals, I have found the whole season frustrating and for large parts boring, lacking creativity and skill.

We need to get the balance right between talent and work ethic, for the good of the game.

To be fair that was the fastest ive ever seen Capwell run, he kinda left everyone for dust lmao

(Joking, but kinda not - impressive speed from the big lad during that burst)
That break is the stuff that holds our team together. Resilience under pressure. We would benefit from toughening our resolve. We already know how to play. Such a suck place to be right now.

To be fair to Webster, losing your best forward AND captain AND your clear best half is going to derail many a team. I take a positive out of the fact that we have managed to cling on so long. This is all after losing Tohu Harris and Dylan Walker earlier than expected I may add.
I agree that the loss of key players and part players to injury and suspension has challenged us but it's nothing that we can't factor in at recruitment and coaching levels surely?

Metcalf went and had his running style altered and was still fast and looking like he was holding back mostly. He’s had many issues in and around his legs and comes back just as fast when he does return, the issue is the amount of injuries he sustains

I switched off after the DCE field goal I was that disgusted in Webby not using the game as an opportunity to try something different.

I was shocked to see the score line 27-26 as it’s not a fair reflection of the match. It was never that close. Webby will feel vindicated his game plan works given the score line

So you can expect the same predictable game plan next week when we bow out of the finals….

Penrith will cash in on DWZ wing for sure….

That’s what worries me about Metcalf his game is built on speed and generally it’s not until year 2 where players are 100% back to normal so if we do throw big money at him we potentially won’t get value for money but at the same time there’s no one else better or available tricky situation

Foolish to throw big money at him

We don’t know who the next Reece Walsh is hiding in Harold Matthew’s Cup. That’s the scouts job. Who’s our recruiting scout? don’t tell me it’s Tony Iro

Wild take his game plan does work? It’s literally the most successful the club has been in ages the best position the club has been in.

i guess we could go back to wild attack no consistency and missing finals almost every year
