Coach Bio
Playing a rare combination of Second Row and Wing, Tony Iro played 255 First Grade games with seven different clubs, most notably with the Sydney Roosters and Manly Warringah Sea Eagles. As well as 25 tests of the Kiws.
Joining the Warriors coaching staff in 2005, and was named the inaugural coach of the Toyata Cup Under 20's side in 2008, leading them to a 3rd place, and 7th place finish.
In 2010, Iro was made an assistant coach under Ivan Cleary in the NRL side, and was a part of the staff that went to the 2011 NRL Grand Final.
Iro remained an assistant under Brian McClennan, and was made interim head coach for the final two rounds of the 2012 season, following McLennans sacking.
Iro left the Warriors in 2013, joining the Kiwis as High Performance Manager.
In 2015, Iro returned to the Warriors as an assistant coach to Andrew McFadden, and spent a year as Recruitment and Development manager in 2016, before going back to an assistant position after the hiring of Peter O'Sullivan.
Iro moved to back into an office position in 2021, returning to New Zealand in the midst of the club being based in Australia due to COVID-19 restrictions.
For 2022, Iro was made Sky Sport Future Warriors coach, a position he still holds to date.
Iro was also the Cook Islands national team coach from 2017, leading them to qualification for the 2021 World Cup, and a 3rd place finish in their World Cup Pool. He was replaced in 2023 by Karmicahel Hunt.
