How do you feel about aussies buying out SL?

They will need to turn back years of negative PR from the rahrah establishment. It pisses me off that a lot of people here either prefer rahrah or don’t watch any rugby and don’t understand there is a difference between rahrah and league.

Unfortunately league sprung out of small and medium sized towns not big cities (aside from Leeds and maybe Bradford) and has struggled to break out of it. 100 years of rahrah oppression didn’t help.

These days, there’s no defined age for rugby league players to call it quits – as some of the game’s oldest players still doing the business in 2024 can attest to.
Remarkably, there are two players over the age of 40 still playing on a fairly regular basis – albeit outside of Super League – which, quite simply, we tip our hat to.



Some of Super League’s modern-day icons are among the oldest players in the game, as well as some stalwarts of the lower leagues who have served their clubs with pride. Without further ado, here’s our 13 featuring every player still active over the age of 36.

You watch games from the 70s and early 80s and guys that are late 20s look like they’re in their late 40s

A story as told to me by my Grandad who was a ref and lino from just after the war until the mid sixties.

He was running the line at a Wigan v Warrington derby game. One of the Wigan props charged at the line and looked liked he’d scored a try so the two linesman headed for the posts. My grandad said when they turned to face the pitch they both saw this skinny bald headed bloke disappearing towards the far end of the pitch to score. What had happened was the Wigan prop had lost control of the ball, Bevan snapped it up in the dead ball area side stepped through the Wigan defence and ran the length of the field to score. Cue my Grandad and his fellow linesman having to run the length of the pitch to the opposite set of posts to dogs abuse from the crowd.

Incredibly, Rob Burrow played 492 games for Leeds … 5th most appearances for Leeds. A man who played well above his size.

The first one while stupid to actually do it, you could see why the video ref might do it.

But the second, a blatant square up early in a big game..bloody ridiculous.
