Was it Katoa that was defending 2 meters behind our try line once and let in a try or was that another rookie forward that everyone was writing off?

Katoa asked for his release because we couldn't develop him with the muppets we had and had fallen down the pecking order.

So he wanted to go and we probably saw an opportunity to unload a contract that wasn't good value to us because of the aforementioned muppets.
Plus he was stuck in Aus during covid as he wasn’t a NZ citizen

Bang on… he had a few off games and we threw him to the kerb

He rejected Nathan Brown more than the club i think
My recollection at the time is that the club gave him a big contract early, and then shit the bed thinking they had made a mistake when he wasn't powering on in his development during Covid...probably in Nathan Brown's opinion. The whole situation was a clusterfuck, and the pandemic had a heavy hand in it.

I felt we tried to get him off the books, and with some of his visa issues etc. he obliged.

Sounds like half the team tbh.

The slide on our own tryline until they fall over the line was pretty much the tactic for us back then.
No we were on our try line and we was a couple meters behind the line and not moving up at all. I don't know if it was him or not now. I'll have to try and find it

From my (albeit fastly failing memory) Kearney started him as an 80 minute starter where he excelled and built up a decent combination with (of all people) Nikorima.
Brown came in, saw him more as a benchie, cut his minutes, moved him to the other edge......lost his mojo till eventually got dropped. Oppertunity to get developed by Craig Bellamy comes along......given at that time why the hell wouldnt he jump at it.

I can totally understand Katoa wanting to move on. Kearney and Payten had him playing well. Under Brown he regressed.

Going to Melbourme a lot of people would have thought Bellamy would either get the best out of him or he would struggle under Bellamy's intensity. He went there, challenged himself and has flourished. He was good as a rookie here and has really come on.

On the flip side. When he left we had a new regime come in. They would have wanted to make some adjustments to the roster or may not have known much about him and needed to make a decision. Even though he's going well the club would be comfortable with the decision with the second rowers coming through.

Which ways the game going everyone? My pick is Broncos to finish strong but the storms elite fitness to hold them off
It will be interesting to see if they can get a period like in the 2023 Grand Final where it looked like they had it won.

The Storm have the gun spine to get them late. They might not be able to get the comeback Cleary could organised. They likely won't get it out that far.

Think they will likely suffocate them. Broncos may chase points but it could look messy if it doesn't come off. Especially if mistakes lead to more points conceded.
