My biggest takeaway from yesterday's game is how easy it is to manipulate a penalty nowadays, it seems if the crowd makes enough noise and sufficient players throw their hands up the ref will find a penalty in the set. It is a serious blight on the game that makes it hard to believe there is a level playing field.
And any hint of accidental pressure on the neck you just put your hand on your neck and refuse to play the ball even if you are not in any way injured.

the coach got us to top 4 in the first place.

is it coach's fault that the ref allowed penrith right of way in the ruck? or a ref who can rule knocks on and accidental offsides on the fly that the bunker can't see? or the bunker can't seem to see to'o grounding a ball short and rolling it over the line?

is it coach's fault we don't have a half capable of kicking distance to get us out of trouble, something we've relied on all year with johnson?

was it webby's gameplan to complete at 72%? lower than penrith?
was it's webby's gameplan to have twice as many errors and missed tackles as penrith? Can't blame the coach for knocking on to start the second half in our own end.

come off it... we're 4th over 15th last year with much the same side. The difference is the coach. Loads went against us that game, before the game even kicked off. We needed a lot going our way to beat penrith, and it didn't. We didn't even get to see the warriors play the game we've seen them play. Maybe if they did and we got beat I'd be more inclined to look at the coach but until then.... Jazz can you please stop dropping the ball on our own 10 metre thanks
It can be both and probably was, along with stuff out of our control.

Volkman is the future, but far from the finished product. He would have found the pressure tonight way more than he has experienced.
Yes and it would have just smashed his confidence smashed it.
And if SJ is out next week DW and TMM will be better for the run against Penrith Panthers.
I like Ronny he is like Mason. But he hasnt got the experience yet.
First grade is a big step up from NSW cup.

Was just watching the replay and at the point where Peachey stayed in the ruck, even Flanagan went as far as to say he thought it should have been a penalty. Then a dubious challenge that looked as though a panther touched it but our challenge was retained. At 20-6 after just scoring, if we get that penalty we’re entitled to there’s a possibility we can mount some pressure. Instead they go and score after the challenge is unsuccessful. We were given nothing.
There was a phase where penrith were lying all over and even having second goes and we got nothing. We never would have won the game, but at least show consistency

I still don't understand not playing Volkman.

The only reason I can think is it would have screwed the NSW team.

Looking at the NSW team, there are some good players that will get a chance next year. I would love to see the players Webby can sign after next year. I am sure players will be very interested in playing for him.

First grade will always take precedence over NSW Cup. It was probably more to do with sticking with the core group of players that have played enough first grade games this season as the intensity of finals goes up another notch. Had Volkman played a blinder last week he might have been considered.

Most disappointing thing for me is that we don't seem to have learnt from our past mistakes in terms of team management.

We've seen earlier in the year that Walker isn't a half, we've seen we get rolled with a small bench, we've seen Siro is a limited player. And yet we think in a crunch game against the Panthers those are all going to change? It makes no sense.

I'm praying next week we get an early try or two to get the confidence up.

Webby had no intention of winning this one by resting SJ and it was a great crash course for finals football and work on for the next game.
I don't think webby rested SJ. From what I can gather SJ isn't a certainty of even playing next week. According to SJ his injury is a day to day thing and he didn't look confident when asked about it.

  • Curran Needs longer game time. He can tackle and ball play and has form.
  • Niukore cannot ball play, the ball dies with him. he should be in the middle.
  • Sironen offers nothing, constantly heads in the wrong direction, and falls off tackles.
  • Jazz is rusty af, but I get it - experience.
  • Montoya has been on the slide for a while and gives me 2021-2022 vibes. More clipping players than tackling them today. Not a big game player. Will cost us.
  • As glass as Egan can be, it's a wasted bench spot having Lussick there.
  • There was no game plan, no real bench strategy, no excuses for Webby.

On a positive note, the effort was there.
Fair comment, but Niukore's edge contribution is on the defensive side of the ball. That's his primary role, to knock them over and put attackers in two minds, one of which is self preservation.

Unfortunately that game probably showed our ceiling, great year nonetheless but it’d be a shame to go out in straight sets.
These opportunities seem to only be 1-2 years per decade for us so hope we have another shot in this window
It showed our ceiling without SJ. If it wasn't before, it is now clear what he brings to the team in direction, skill, confidence and vision because those things were not there yesterday - and perhaps most importantly the glue that he is which makes all the other parts come together. Without SJ the outcome against Penrith was never really in doubt.

We weren’t going to win that one - playing the minor prems and 2x defending champions, away, without our playmaker, with TMM undercooked and with a small bench

I thought we performed OK, in that we defended well and didn’t hose 50 points.

The loss of SJ was huge on many levels. Without him, we
1. Didn’t have his decision making
2. Put our best interchange into 7
3. Had to make do with a halves pairing that hasn’t played together
4. Had to change our game plan
5. Shrank our bench

The fact that the boys didn’t give up was heartening
Best summary of the scenario that I have read so far! (y)

Great run down.

I watched the replay of the highlights.

Ford was appalling, all our troubles on the left start with him getting carved which leaves huge holes and a Forum full of posters ready to shred Pompey and Montoya.

Ford is the problem. He is a gumby punching below his weight class.

Hope he sorts his shit out, that eighteen point first half hiding was mostly on him.

Its like both of our centres lack the confidence to back themselves huh. They just need to pull the trigger and give there guts when they do. I feel as if they panic and force the ball on which leads to errors. Just need to back themselves, they've shown they're capable of breaking the line but its like they get too shy in big matches or close contests. Metcalf was good for that, he just backed himself regardless.

Penmeths whole team does it, they dont think twice.. if one of there players think they have half a chance they just gun it and give it a go with no second thought most of the time. Is why they're dangerous, they're confident. Whereas we were timid
Our centres are timid because they are defensive rocks but offer little on attack.

They lack confidence because they cannot break a tackle one on one. Berry has no physical presence or line breaking ability. Pompey is just too slow.

They are good players doing a role and it works against most teams. But against real speed and heavy decision making even there defence was exposed.

Lots of competition for centre spots next year.

We lost fair but Adam Gee is such a cunt. There was one set where the panthers literally took the piss holding us down and he did nothing!!

Small accidental little crushers got penalties and dwz punch in the face nothing!!
Yeah, not getting a pen when stuff happens similar to what Panthers were getting is off kilter with being a fair unbiased officiating.

Replays showed he copped 2 head highs and a eye poke in the 1 tackle.

As soon as I saw the refs I wrote the game off Klein in the bunker also took the piss.

Ht didn't take multiple looks on any of the suspect looking calls.

The Warriors is a Club right? Yesterday the NSW Cup team were in a must-win situation while the NRL team had a game up their sleeve. My guess is that the scenario was discussed within the team, and a collective decision was made to support the cup team with first choice players starting with Volkman. And they nailed it properly. With SJ out, the NRL team were always on a hiding to nothing in this one, and in a sense keep their powder dry for the next game, at home. I don't think it is realistic to believe that with Ronny in the NRL team yesterday that the outcome would have been much different. The contest could only be somewhere near equal by fielding SJ on Cleary. Cleary had a good game last night with some moments of brilliance but it only matched the level of urgency required to win the game. So it looks to me that a Club [family] decision was made re Volkman especially.

If we had just played Volkaman, TMM would have been in his natural 6 and Walker where he’s best at 13 but nah we go and shuffles the decks completely so that even if SJ comes back next game TMM will still be underdone at 6 and Walker not primed at 13.

So much for Webbys next man up. Can’t be saying that shit and not following through.

1 mark against the webSTAR (still has 100 to go before he’s fired)

The cup doesn’t matter - it’s a feeder team for the ones. They don’t even show the cup games in TV here bro. Nobody really cares.

If that’s the decision the club made instead of fielding the best team in one of our biggest games of the decade then they’ve lost the fucking plot.
