If corporates pay higher tax then they look to cut costs elsewhere to offset (sack people) and don’t invest for future growth… which ultimately leads to weaker productivity & prosperity for all New Zealanders. We need to encourage risk taking, aspiration & hard work - which is the opposite to the ideology that you seem to subscribe to.Gee, this entire post is a "Trigger warning". Nice one.
Aside from the fact that it looks like you're just plucking figures out of thin air, and that your first sentence needs huge citation and qualification, which is not unusual with your posts.
Here's a starter - given the government is elected by the citizens of New Zealand (albeit this one doesn't give a fuck about those below a certain wealth level or demographic), which is us; given this is the social contract that we choose as our system of engagement at a civic, societal and logistical level; given that we task the elected representatives of the people, i.e. the ones we choose to act on our behalf to manage the social contract and the ability to administrate taxes with a fair distribution to ensure an even society (yes, yes, that's how it's supposed to work, but clearly doesn't, case in point the current mob); given we expect everyone to contribute to society and paying tax is one of those means we ensure that the social and civic contract is upheld (MAKE THE CORPORATES PAY THEIR SHARE); given thousands of jobs depend on the government, and keep our country running; given the population is growing and has grown exponentially in the last fifteen years, deliberately I might add; given all those things - just what exactly does "living within it's means" actually stand for?
In the past, when our social services were better WE DIDN'T HAVE NEOLIBERALISM AS THE DOMINANT IDEOLOGY
Google. Amazon. Facebook. TikTok. Instagram. Apple. All the banks in NZ. That's who I'm referring to.If corporates pay higher tax then they look to cut costs elsewhere to offset (sack people) and don’t invest for future growth… which ultimately leads to weaker productivity & prosperity for all New Zealanders. NZ has had increasing life spans, decreasing poverty and increasing quality in the last 45 years.Your comment is theory too Mr Brownstone. If encouraged they strip profits and invest fuck all. The proof is here over the last 45 years.
Errrrr no it wasn't. I've said many times. Labour is neoliberal as well. And what ideology? Anyway, onwards.NZ has had increasing life spans, decreasing poverty and increasing quality in the last 45 years.
Your ideology was tried the last 5 years and there’s all the proof we need![]()
I think you’ll find that the Australian banks pay tax in NZ…. but the rip off is that the fees they charge us and the differences between the deposit and loan rates in NZ are different to Oz making it feel that they’re ripping us off.Google. Was just about to post similar. Irony is that if we lowered our corporate tax rate enough then it could result in increased tax revenue from these companies because they would reverse the cost skews away from NZ to take advantage of a favourable foreign tax differential.I think you’ll find that the Australian banks pay tax in NZ…. but the rip off is that the fees they charge us and the differences between the deposit and loan rates in NZ are different to Oz making it feel that they’re ripping us off.
While it’s a legitimate practice for companies like Google Inc to charge Google NZ “fees” for things like Cloud hosting, the amounts they charge is, IMO, just a way to transfer what should be taxable income in NZ. Then, some “head company” in a tax haven charges Google Inc which then transfers the taxable income out of the States.
Disclosure: my KiwiSaver and a managed fund I have has shares in five of the six Tech companies you’ve mentioned.
Fact is most of the people on that list do worldwide business.Stuff

Some good points from Micheal Wood, shame he did himself a disservice around declaring shares but as seen in recent times, he isn’t alone
CORRUPTION!80% drop in ram raids.
This is what we voted for! This is the NZ we want.
who would ever be proud of that?!Now a 70% rise in sexual assaults, that's what the scum voted in.
Although from alot of comments from right leaning voters on this forum are proud of that!!!!!!
How do you attribute a drop in ram raids to a new government? They haven’t altered anything, so is there a thinking that because national is in government, they’ve decided they better stop doing ram raids? Think it’s more likely that the fad has died out as it was mainly online notoriety that many were seekingwho would ever be proud of that?!
and how do you attribute a 70% rise in sexual assault to a new right leaning government?
surely you’re not implying supporters of the left are out there raping in protest?
doesn’t make any sense to me.
i didn’t attribute anything to anyone. How do you attribute a drop in ram raids to a new government? Can you explain this post? Who is the scum? Are you drunk? Now a 70% rise in sexual assaults, that's what the scum voted in.

Sorry. I just saw a post you liked about an 80% drop in ram raids and it implied it was because of government and wondered why a 70% increase in sexual assault wasn’t due to government as well? Easy to cherry pick to back your point but the overall picture doesn’t always tell the whole storyi didn’t attribute anything to anyone.
i despise all politicians equally.
