Why are we talking about speed when hitting pedestrians, what are they doing on the road if it's not a pedestrian crossing?

The application time for the role of running Otago University was the time Robertson was the finance minister.
Is it corrupt when a sitting Minister of Finance involved in funding the university was at the same time applying to run it and would the power imbalance affected the decision - particularly seen as he doesnβt fit the role as a non academic?

Funny, I remember a lot of people saying the same thing about Jim Bolger when he got the job of Chancellor at Waikato Uni.... but then the people making the comments were on the left and those defending his appointment were on the right.
I guess it's only corruption when it's someone from the opposition parties to the one people support getting a job.
TBH, I think there's as much chance of Robertson getting the job as payback for money going to Otago University as I think there is Bishop now receiving money from tobacco companies for pushing through favourable outcome for them.... zero to none!!!

There had been some speculation that there may have been some more alleged shop lifting incidents involving Golriz, and now her court date has been pushed back as a fourth charge has been laid. I can see lawyers from both sides thinking this is advantageous for themβ¦.. with the defense saying that this is just a greater indication of how out of character this was while the prosecution will say it shows a habit and not stress related incidents.
I just hope, whatever the outcome, she continues to get the help she obviously needs.

Why am I not surprised that the current government is blaming the previous government for βan education crisisβ. Because weβve heard it all before.
Hipkinβs blamed the Ardern administration (while hoping we forgot he was education minister for part of that time) while, in 2018, Ardern blamed the Key government for the education crisis Labour inherited.
Hereβs a novel ideaβ¦.. fund education properly (what National wonβt do) but expect and demand improved outcomes with that money (what Labour wonβt do). Forget doing what appeals to your voter base and blaming everyone else and actually do what is best for the country.
BTW, that should also apply to social funding, housing, health, Defence, infrastructure, police, justice, environment, conservation⦠pretty much every service the government provides.

You would, of course, take the fun out of politics by making politicians co-operate and look at the long-term good for the country. Not what the election cycle dictates they should do. You'd also end up with a Grand Coalition. Which terrifies those of us who hate incrementalism. Because that's what a Grand Coalition would probably seal. Not that I'm overly complaining....

How much is properly?
While everyone agrees this is the solution itβs an open ended answer. If you doubled funding I believe we wouldnβt see much improvement. And as an example govt expenditure has almost doubled in the past 6 years.
We need to actually get more done with what we spend because more money isnβt equaling more teachers in the classroom - itβs been less!

Bigger picture:
Weβre going to see Labour go through a rough rebuilding stage. Iβve said many times Hipkins needed to go to allow the process to happen quickly, positively and for real change to happen.
Could be like National before Luxon and Labour before Ardern. A lot of internal power struggles trying to reinvent itself and the voters turning away in droves as they spend more time worrying about themselves than the country.
