Yes it was. Like power generation and supply, I'm socialist enough to believe critical infrastructure should have remained in State hands even if unprofitable or inefficient. The social cost is much worse in private hands due to the profit motive.

The majority of the NZ public would have no problem paying for infrastructure as above if they knew it was in their best interest.

The problem arises when politicians make decisions that aren't in the interests of the voters. My socialist roots coming out lol

Hence the cycle of Govt changes.
I think you’ll find that stance is more accurately described as nationalist

You’ve spent a lot of time on the Gold Coast and I’m on holiday here now.

What’s the difference in attitude between NZ and Australia?

Obviously surfers is an unnatural snap shot but even on the radio you hear a lot more economic focus (eg interest rates changing, inflation, etc). The resources sector is seen positively with big media campaigns about the benefit (0.1% of land used but employing 500,000 people and $120b to the economy).

There’s a lot to not like about surfers from a non tourist perspective but the rate of change and development is pretty common world wide while NZ moves at a snails pace. We seem to be falling way behind. The constant change and growth on the Gold Coast is breathtaking.

Just after an experts views.

Ps looking at Trumps new section now
Wiz
I m about 8 km west of Surfers.
Most locals dont even go there - I certainly dont.
Gc City Council is the second biggest council in Australia after Brisbane City.
They do a good job keeping rate rises to below 3 per cent and a tremendous job on water and sewerage reflecting maybe that the mayor is an engineer.
You can tell whether the gc is in a good economic cycle by counting the tower cranes.
Nationally the economy just chugs along roughly 2.5 per cent growth per year - the current federal gov is more centre than centre left.
We hqve a fringe party called one nation headed by Pauline Hansen which is currently making great numbers in the polls. However its basically just a grievance party like Nz First.

Hi Wiz .Hope you are enjoying your holiday(lucky fn capitalist) ;)

Mate I havent lived there for many years. When I left it was still party time in my life & football of course.

Surfers is a shithole now & was becoming that way even before I left (26 years ago).

I always love watching NRL games in the sports bar on the huge screens in the Casino
Beer, BBQ’s, sun, partying, footy, stunning woman, beaches, weather. Love the taverns everywhere - great food, decent servings, good pricing.

What’s not to like as a holiday destination???

Ps I’m staying in the heart of surfers this time but prefer down Burleigh Heads way

They put a smile on the dial

This government has all but shut down emergency housing assistance. At the same time they are criminalising homelessness, while throwing more and more out onto the street where many of those affected have very complicated circumstances.

They have been responsible for the highest growth in unemployment in decades.

More and more people living in hardship and out of cars.

Yet the new law will now criminalise those whose circumstances are a direct result of this government's actions.

All the way down to 14 year olds.

No one will be able to afford to pay that fine.

There's a private prison to fill.

Oh and this is another creep towards the criminalisation of protest.

This is the right. This is who they are. You should all be angry, and fighting back.

And if they move on? To where?
