The Nats idea to put a limit on how much council rates can be raised is a simplistic approach without a lot of thought to the consequences…. Councils will simply privatise, go down user pays routes and increase their other levies and fees to suit.

Watch as subsidises to public transport is reduced, free and subsidised pool and library services become user pays, reserve and development contributions rise along with resource consent and building consent application fees and water rates rise…. basically everything else will go up to cover what extra revenue rates increases over 4% would have generated.

Hasn’t worked overseas…. won’t work here.

Damn, I’m starting to sound like @MaybeTop8. Shorted sighted policy very similar to Trump withholding federal funds except they’re “withholding” rates funds.

For someone who relentlessly talks down NZ you seem to spend an awful, awful lot of time in the NZ politics thread of a NZ Rugby League teams forum.
Some Kiwi hurt you really bad didn't they?

I don't think Russia was particularly interested in Water Reform - more so Russia do seem to implement troll farm disinformation campaigns against indigenous cultures around the world.

Are you trying to say kiwis were influenced to vote against Three Waters by watching a Russian Māori language show?! As I dont have a premium Herald sub, give us the raw numbers.. How many kiwis watched the show? How many polled voters mentioned it as influential?

There was no vote for three waters, there was a general election.

I'm saying there is disinformation campaigns run against indigenous cultures by foreign actors across the world. DUH.

Aus had a referendum to on the Voice, not a single Australian was watching indigenous language shows to be influenced against it.

Still struggling to see how a Russian māori language show had any meaningful impact on NZ voters. Although it is a pretty convenient scapegoat to avoid self reflection.

I agree with this too. However, for a slightly different reason

Central government shouldnt dictate how councils are run. The council is answerable to its ratepayers. If they rates go through the roof, or infrastructure isn’t maintained, power is in the ratepayers to get rid of councillors. Meddling from Wellington just muddies local democracy

The government should be focused on national matters

The specific case is not a television show it's a website

Missing the point much?

Foreign actors run disinformation campaigns to sow disharmony in other countries societies.
Attacking indigenous cultures is just the new anti vax which exploded here in 2022 ahead of the Wellington protests.

Are you so resistant to the concept because deep down it's the David Goggins types that get sucked into it the most?
