It certainly is the plague of the 21st century and cruel to watch family and loved ones fade away. I think itβs necessary these sorts of drugs are available for the types of purposes youβve mentioned that are calming your Dadβs mind but do worry about pharmac and the like making them available when the its really hard to have complete control over for them when anybody can grow plants or cultivate mushrooms. Thatβs obviously the medicinal side and I do wonder if the acceptance of the like as medicinal has had an effect on elderly and their willingness to partake? The gold card certainly adds a worthwhile saving in the purchase of cannabis above board in people I know and disappearing is the stigma that generation often has around cannabis and potheads. We feel how we feel about these things and Iβm not trying to change your view around legality, but decriminalising should certainly be a pursued avenue and I do think a conversation is worthwhile about the savings and revenue that could bolster, the ability to concentrate on methamphetamine and harder drugs having negative effects. Thereβs been a real effort over time to demonise street drugs and endorse pharmaceutical drugs, but neither are better than the other in my view, risks go with them all just as they do with the other drug thatβs legal for consumption in alcohol
I'm completely against legalizing cannabis, and for a number of reasons which were covered in the thread debating it before we got hacked and deleted.

Fascinating the amount of places that have altered to having steps to do with decriminalisation, personal cultivation or medicinal. The places that now allow personal cultivation are Switzerland, Thailand, Canada, Uruguay, Spain, Mexico, Germany, Israel, Denmark, Chile, Portugal, South Africa, Belgium, some states in America, parts in Australia, Netherlands, Czech Republic, Colombia, Luxembourg, Malta. Some have had some negative effects but largely theyβve had minimal issues. I can recall apart of your apprehension was about the contradiction that we were at that stage about to go smoke free and allowing another form of smoking. Again itβs your prerogative to feel how you do, Iβd be interested to see the public sentiment if that referendum was held currently with the financial issues the country is facing

It has to be more than we can make some quick bucks from it and I doubt very much that would even be in the majority of people's thinking. There are several other considerations that need to be made as well other than money and smoke free NZ.
I support use for pain relief but not as an escape from reality. I support decriminalisation but not legalisation.
Interesting.... but I wonder where the articles/blogs from the left are about the fact that if the number of mΔori seats were decided on the same ratio of registered mΔori rolls votes per seat as per general roll, there would actually be 6 mΔori seats... not the seven current ones. Alcohol is always going to what such measures are held against and interesting enough, referendums that came around alcohol were to do with banning it rather than legislation in prohibition. 1919 was the closest NZ came to prohibition with concerns raised by religious groups and Womanβs groups, Iβm not too sure whether an escape from reality or a financial gain was the reason alcohol survived those referendums through the late 1800βs-early 1900βs? We still see harms of a portion of society through the cause of alcohol and will continue to, but rules over time have been put in place to try and limit the worst outcomes. Iβm not someone that takes a view of because some canβt control themselves that all of society patches price. The amount of growing operations that have been found out in the last year or so have been huge, the last seizure was about 10 tonnes. That should tell them that there is huge demand. Theyβre never going to beat the appetite for demand, even trump blowing boats up that are apparently cartels. Reagan announced a war on drugs years ago and itβs been a failure, time to go back to the drawing board
