I’m in urban Auckland and a fellow resident who goes to another urban practice pays approximately $40.

Greed comes into it
Greedy doctors?

We’ve had doctors closing because they can’t compete with hospitals pay rates to recruit doctors with the funding.

Most practices have long wait lists and long time frame to see doctors. There isn’t enough doctors.

Show me anywhere that supports ‘because of National a GP visit could soon cost $100’.

I mean why even go there. Surely there’s other areas to attack National or maybe announce what they would actually do around GP’s?

When your promotion is focused on the opposition instead of yourself it never ends well.
Could is different from will.

When fees get to $100 and if National is still in government then the statement holds good

Wasn’t that the strategy National took at the last election and to a certain extent continue to do so

National could get the Warriors their first NRL title for the same reasons I suppose… 🎉

We are getting somewhere @wizard of Tauranga

The funding announced today primarily was designed to get more doctors not to reduce or hold fees
And will more doctors reduce fees? Supply and demand?

What would labour have done different?

I’m guessing reduce cost but you never can see them?

What’s happening with the new med school to supply more doctors. That’s the underlying issue.

Most practices in my area have a closed book
Yeah, I can understand that. We are quite lucky in the provinces with health care however I have a couple of acquaintances who work at Base here and their common complaint is that the ED waiting times are very much influenced by people who should be seen at a GP but can't afford the cost. So anything that reduces costs to see a GP is fine by me.

I guess the other part of the debate then becomes what is life threatening and what is elective?

I should reply to you twice seen you made the suggestion twice !

What does it cost for a ride in an ambulance in your area?
How long do you need to wait in a queue at your ED?
I posted once and your posts are coming though twice as well sometimes… think it’s the site.

Good point. Last time I went in the ambulance it was $100ish but only a donation??? Can’t remember I wasn’t good for a while after 🤣

ED can be an hour to 6 hours. They base it on priority.

What your ED is experiencing is what all EDs are more so in poor socioeconomic areas

So $39 and 4 hours wait is infinitely better than $100 and 5-6 hrs

If you received the invoice from the ambos for $100 I don’t think even you would tell them to F off on the basis that it is a request for a donation

No, I went from the ambulance straight into ED as high priority so 0 wait that time. Was so stubborn I waited until my appendix burst before getting carted in there.

We paid the ambulance of course but SOME desperate people won’t I’m sure.

Agree but how do you flatten the curve with ED V Practices. Would free GP for example make a difference or lead to the same issues with regard to say seeing a specialist.

I don't know the answer but am interested in the discussion. I don't know of anywhere in the world other than Cuba that has a health system that seems to cover off all bases and is able to export expertise.
