📝 Summary:

The thread centers on New Zealand's upcoming election, primarily debating the economic management and policy differences between the center-left Labour government and center-right National/ACT opposition. A user #7 highlighted Labour's annual 9% spending growth versus 1.5% under previous governments, arguing this fueled inflation. National's tax-cut policy faced scrutiny over funding gaps and legality, with user #215 questioning Luxon's reliance on "trust me" assurances.
Leadership competence emerged as a critical theme, particularly in later posts. Luxon drew heavy criticism after a contentious interview where he struggled to defend policy details #194#199#211, while Willis faced backlash for her economic credentials. Hipkins garnered fleeting praise for articulation but was ultimately seen as representing poor governmental outcomes #45#119. A trusted user #308 presented expert economic analysis contradicting Treasury optimism. Infrastructure issues—like Wellington's water crisis and the dental school staffing shortage—were cited as examples of systemic mismanagement #235#12. Notable policy debates included road-user charges for EVs #220, immigration impacts on rents #299, and coalition scenarios involving NZ First #182#258. Early fringe discussions on candidates' rugby allegiances gave way to substantive policy critiques, culminating in grim Treasury forecasts discussed in posts #271#304#308. User #168 also revealed concerns about Labour rushing regulatory changes to entrench policies pre-election.

Somewhat anecdotal but I've heard (from medical staff) that the biggest impediment to doctor numbers here is the medical council and their rules. There are apparently many doctors and trained medical personnel who cannot get a gig here because of the stringent Medical Council of NZ rules and regulations.
Same with engineers - who wants to move to a country where your internationally recognised qualifications aren't recognosed🤷‍♀️

Just one of the random blue tick twitter accounts named after a cartoon character you post to a Warriors forum thinking its cutting edge geo political analysis.

Don't be a hypocrite
Was that the Putin video? So zero analysis and just primary source video.. 😂 😂

You are getting more cooked by the day and I'm here for it

Like everything it’s complex.

This funding is a record amount but the minimum needed. Nurses and doctors are still paid less privately than in public.

It’s as much doctors can earn more in hospitals than they are underpaid in private practice. The GP clinics can’t compete based on current funding.

To me we need many more doctors. Heaps more. The botteneck seems to be we only train 50 something per year and we need lots more. Prioritise our own before immigration.
So you don't have any idea of how or if this record amount of funding will help with the problem 🤔
I have my doubts and I think the larger health companies will NOT use it to make seeing a GP easier.

So you agree with me that this is the a waste of money and just a cosmetic announcement

Quick, quote Anne Salmon and her 7 followers to distract us that it’s a big deal because the Labour MPs don’t know what’s going on 🤣

This is just a really clear example of opposition for the sake of it - can’t articulate the issues clearly but it’s a ACT thing so we must oppose.

No big deal really because Labour will cancel it in their first 100 days (but still won’t know why its an issue 🤣)
No Wiz. Act are out for the interests of their masters, mostly offshore, and the wealthy. End of story.

And the irony is reducing compliance costs that ramp up prices mainly benefits the poor and middle income. All those costs get passed on.

ACt is standing up for the poor and middle income - there is no benefit to the wealthy here.

All the lefties are happy with the status quo of excessive cost, unaffordable housing and child poverty. Keep as many people as possible poor and then be the party for the poor??? 🤯

Requiring all laws to assess the positives AND negatives is just really basic stuff to ensure we don’t do dumb costly stuff. I don’t understand the issue. Go ACT!

It's clear you don't understand willfully or otherwise. Your comments seem to be mostly you trying to reassure yourself.

‘GPs received around $15 for a casual adult appointment and $30 for a child.’

So they are funded about $60 for 4 x 15 minutes adult consultations in an hour. 15% increase won’t be much help…

There is a new online doctors service about to undercut doctors getting funded heaps more:

Would like to see more detail on this service.Certainly would help free up GPs time.
As usual the devil is in the detail.
