I feel there has been a degree of apathy that has crept in to society around the police. I hope this spurs on a better appreciation for police and a tougher stance by all of society towards lawlessness

To go with it, a female officer. Probably just coincidence but crime against females at present is staggeringly high. Last Saturday a female’s body was found at the jetty at Foxton Beach. The trend has continued since that lady was stabbed on a bus and killed

I know it's easy to make comment, and it doesn't specifically just relate to this news report, but why as a society do we shun away from reporting this type of behaviour. How have we regressed so far as people and communities that this sort of behaviour is turned s blind eye to? It goes on and on, from neighbours witnessing some of the things that were being done to Poor little Nia Glassie through to this latest event. Would it have made a difference? I don't know the answer to that. But sometimes it would surely. Having someone calling you out for your behaviour and often. Changing a culture of it's not my business will take time but we have to start. Yes it's a longer arc of decline than political cycles
And surely this must be an issue where an agreement can be made with cross party support. But it also takes more than the government to effect change when it comes to this type of behaviour.

I think social engineering has probably been a cause as much as any potential fix. Strong leadership is what is needed and I don't think any of our political parties have that to offer.

Dunno if social engineering is a cause, the decline of the west started in the 80s when the neoliberals hired Reagan, a literal Hollywood actor, to sell the biggest heist on the working class since Stalin's oligarchs.
I don't agree about the tough on crime comment. It has been shown to work in other countries and even as recently as last decade in Manurewa.
Western production shifted to China where the communists use their people as capitalist slave labour, with the long-term goal of destabilising western democracies. Actually, this is a longer arc than I thought.
