Somewhat anecdotal but I've heard (from medical staff) that the biggest impediment to doctor numbers here is the medical council and their rules. There are apparently many doctors and trained medical personnel who cannot get a gig here because of the stringent Medical Council of NZ rules and regulations.

Same with engineers - who wants to move to a country where your internationally recognised qualifications aren't recognosed

Like everything it’s complex.

This funding is a record amount but the minimum needed. Nurses and doctors are still paid less privately than in public.

It’s as much doctors can earn more in hospitals than they are underpaid in private practice. The GP clinics can’t compete based on current funding.

To me we need many more doctors. Heaps more. The botteneck seems to be we only train 50 something per year and we need lots more. Prioritise our own before immigration.

So you don't have any idea of how or if this record amount of funding will help with the problem
I have my doubts and I think the larger health companies will NOT use it to make seeing a GP easier.

And the irony is reducing compliance costs that ramp up prices mainly benefits the poor and middle income. All those costs get passed on.

ACt is standing up for the poor and middle income - there is no benefit to the wealthy here.

All the lefties are happy with the status quo of excessive cost, unaffordable housing and child poverty. Keep as many people as possible poor and then be the party for the poor???

Requiring all laws to assess the positives AND negatives is just really basic stuff to ensure we don’t do dumb costly stuff. I don’t understand the issue. Go ACT!
