I liked this comment at the bottom of the article:

ā€˜Amazing the country survives the shift from radical Marxism to radical libertarianism every few years.ā€™

You and me are just like boats in the infinite ocean washing about by great forces we have no control over.
Radical Marxism? Please. That's a comment from the right again who just don't like being called out for their bullshit.

Was what I noticed too down the bottom in the comments. Though a small amount to reference, the females seem to be in agreement with the person writing the article and the last two are males and disagree with her. The last one doesnā€™t respond when she asks if he agrees with the bill. Could be that the writer is female as to why the females support her? Could be nothing either and just some support her stance and others donā€™t and the makeup of the few commenting were split that way coincidentally. Iā€™ve been of the persuasion for some time now that divides are creeping into society but none larger than the political divide thatā€™s growing in the world
Misogyny is a strong hallmark of the entitled right too. Good morning all.

To be honest, while Jacindaā€™s government was more to the left than Clarkā€™s and Seymour is trying to pull the current government more to the right the Keyā€™sā€¦. I personally donā€™t feel itā€™s as much as some would have us believe.

Hereā€™s some generalizations but I think most Kiwis/forum members really just want to get on with life with minimal governmental interference while knowing there are services and money in place for them when they need and for those who already do. For me, that means a government that uses money wisely for everyoneā€™s benefit and raises taxes fairly when requiredā€¦. but also uses government surpluses to reduce debt, provide more infrastructure, extend the health system, raise the standards of everyoneā€¦. not just for the benefit of one group.

I worry for where weā€™re heading. Just like on here, in society Iā€™m seeing such and unwillingness to see it from the other perspective and such tribalism in defending your mob, being politically no matter how much deep down knowing itā€™s not for the betterment of the country as a whole. I donā€™t claim to be better than it, but try my best to see things as impartially as I can. Iā€™m having a really hard time of it at present, but obviously people did previously too. I do wonder sometimes if the world shifting towards an authoritarian model rather than a democratic one, is in preparation for a new sheriff in town being the Chinese and that being the way they conduct themselves? We, the people seem to always forget that we own the power in the sheer numbers we offer, but divide that enough and that power becomes weaker

And our current govt is radical libeterialism?

Maybe sometimes weā€™re just to close to see and blinded by our own ideology šŸ¤”
Actually they are. Neoliberalism by the way. It's all there, there's patterns, there's the backers, there's history in new zealand. This is the economic far right (and social far right as well, but they're staying behind the scenes) in action.

You can choose to ignore all this wiz, you always do, but it's all right in front of us, unfolding.

Particularly in America, particularly here.

Democracy is being actively dismantled by power blocs on the right, and authoritarians the world over.

One thing that's horrible and fascinating at the same time is that the right have been able to twist the old money language of the left and somehow purport to be behind the working class, the champions of the poor. Somehow people have been able to believe that Donald Trump, or David Seymour are champions of the working class, of the poor. That they are against the "system".

They are the fucking system.

This framework is being enacted by different lobby groups around the world.

That's a failure of any kind of socialist or left leaning bloc too, and also a demonstration of how most mainstream media actually reinforce right leaning politics and retrench power.

Still something so terrifying about earthquakes thatā€™s always obviously been in us since we offered up sacrifices to appease the gods and not shake or erupt or cause tsunami's. That was 4.8 on that footage, I was in Samoa in 2009 when that tsunami occurred and the magnitude 8. Hopefully the biggest I encounter in my lifetime but just something so unworldly to experience like those here are experiencing in the footage. Makes you wonder why we build so high when the land is constantly moving, especially where fault lines exist

Agree Mike.

Lots of labels today.

Personality politics is a core belief of the left and if weā€™re generalising radical feminism is a weapon of the left šŸ˜‰
I don't agree with cancel culture either btw. Again, this bullshit culture war is part of a very clever strategy to create an us and them. It works, and some on the left have been very stupid in buying into it as well.

But us dinosaurs are on the way out, so it will look very, very different in 20 years time.

Weā€™re still yet to see Trump officially in the white house again, and a Seymour deputy pm half term. Iā€™m thinking buckle up

I believe the left are very naive, and the western world as a whole thinking that everybody plays by the rules. The western world thought sanctions were enough to punish countries doing wrong in their eyes, all the while theyā€™re preparing for something bigger. Centre politics is fast disappearing and the age of saying or doing anything to get into power is here no matter realistic the claim. Many seem to be modern day charlatans or vanity seekers

Just on the point I was making in the previous post, thereā€™s an old quote being bandied about at the moment from Joseph Stalin that says those who vote mean nothing, those who count the votes mean everything. I made a post on here a few years ago that would be toilet reading for the turks now about how the economic makeup of the E7 looked to me how a conflict would line up opposed to the G7. Not only that but economically the E7 countries wealth and power opposed to G7 countries. E7 countries are largely authoritarian, with the exception of India which calls itself democratic, though under Modi not so much and back then I wondered where they would sit having such long standing tensions with China and being such a powerful military nation? With Trump coming in, it looks to me like all these countries would be willing to put their differences aside for personal wealth and power

Women support her stance, because thatā€™s how they view the world. Through feeling and emotion, on the individual level.

Thatā€™s why the majority in the western world vote left on the majority of major issues.

I believe in reaction.

We had Jacindaā€™s govt being narrow and controlling in their focus (hence the current division). This has cause a spring back as the opposition has reacted.

The US has been quite narrow and controlling in their focus and hence those that donā€™t agree with them reacting

Sorry to burst that bubble, the citizenry thought sanctions were enough, because the news said so. No one in the general public went out and read them, or even bothered to read a dissenting opinion.
