Will be interesting to see the details when they finally appear. The ship was an ex Norwegian dive support vessel so would have had to have DP2 or 3 to be able to work in close to platforms and stay on station. Basically, the position is set in the DP and the ship stays there come hell or highwater. I've been onboard a few and they do drills in case of thruster failure. First step is to disengage the DP and take manual control, veer away from the jacket and get it sorted. Not difficult. For a nation surrounded by water. That has a passion for spending time on boats.
Why are we having these issues with the auto pilot?
The Ferry issue was due to crew not knowing how to disengage the auto pilot. Now the Navy ship has an issue regarding auto pilot.
I have a family member who works on smaller ferries. I might ask him about the auto pilot before I board next time.
Yes Rick the findings will be very interesting. I believe the ship was also equipped with ROV which could assist with beacon positioning which may give further information on what went wrongWill be interesting to see the details when they finally appear. They talk about the autopilot in this instance and that the autopilot course took them onto the reef, so was this a separate navigational tool for course setting (like an aircraft) as I don't believe the DP would allow that.

Rewriting history. Wasn’t a bottom line now!Interesting watch on an and a this morning in an interview with Luxon. Are coalition leaders turning on each other? Seymour told Tame that the treaty principles bill wasn’t a bottom line policy for the act party, so it begs the question why would national go with it announcing that it won’t go past the first reading? Perhaps mmp at play, but not being a bottom line shows that Seymour owned Luxon in negotiations
Yeah, that was the question, whether they were on DP or Autopilot waypoints and whether they drifted or powered onto the reef. You wouldn't be using DP when you are sailing in a patrol box

Just MMP at work. ACT and NZ First needs extreme policy to differentiate themselves from National or people will just vote National.
Luxon threw them a bone on this policy just like they throw them a bone with the Epson seat. Deep down they need them to stay relevant in parliament.
Same with Maori and Greens policy for Labour. Arguably Maori policy that Labour supported recently helped them lose the last election.
The CO only really drives the ship when berthing, conducting fueling at sea or during higher risk operations.I've been on launches with AP lots of times. AP disengages once the waypoint has been reached. No experience of DP.
Could be the waypoint for AP was the reef, so ship responded. Whoever set the waypoint has explaining to do.
Damo, is there a duty for the navigator , mate and or skipper to maintain watch of ships position relative to navigational hazards while on AP ?

Have they said it was a bottom line policy before? Because that’s not what Seymour is saying now
He got absolutely schooled in negotiations. Like Tame said, welcome to politics prime ministerIt really looks like after expecting the coalition to have imploded and didn't, they are now trying to find ways to split them.
Compare this kind of media scrutiny to what Jacinda got. If you want to see completely folding in a negotiation she would hold a world record.
If you believe Seymour. Do you believe Seymour? He got absolutely schooled in negotiations. Like Tame said, welcome to politics prime minister
Why would Seymour lie, with Tame saying he’d spoken to Seymour and he’d said it wasn’t a bottom line for them unless he’s trying to paint Luxon in a negative light? If you believe Seymour. Do you believe Seymour?
perhaps because of the overwhelming backlash he is facing from the public? Welcome to politics. Why would Seymour lie, with Tame saying he’d spoken to Seymour and he’d said it wasn’t a bottom line for them unless he’s trying to paint Luxon in a negative light?
He’s really changed his stance in a short period of time then after being so bullish about the referendum if that’s the case? Not sure an article from a couple of years ago is really a smoking gun after just yesterday has revealed the opposite? Will be interesting to see. What was easy to see was Luxon floundering in that interview. He’s out of his depthperhaps because of the overwhelming backlash he is facing from the public? Welcome to politics.

With Seymour divulging information that it wasn’t a bottom line, it would have been easy for Luxon to say it was in fact a bottom line policy. For which he wasn’t prepared to say? Not seeing much of an agenda? Rather than coalition leaders not on the same pageLuxon not revealing what was said in negotiations is floundering? ok. I guess it suits the agenda
