honestly, if you can't see past your partisan blinkers at the creeping authoritarian fascism in this country, the destruction of democratic rights, regression in all areas, then I don't think my comments are going to make much difference apart from entertainment. Which is starting to kinda lose it's shine for me. There's a shift in rhetoric here too, like the slow boiling frog analogy, where things shift further right and get worse, and justifications or acceptance starts popping up for that as well.

If anyone ever gets the chance please visit this museum in Munich - https://www.nsdoku.de/en/about-us/the-nsdoku - it documents the rise of the nazi party in Germany, and the parallels today. And fuck me it's scary. Trump is doing this in real time. Same with Putin, in a different format.

I would and will call out any political party, right or left that pulls this shit. That's me, that's my moral compass, and yes we all know I'm anti National, virulently anti Act, and all billionaires can essentially get fucked as they're hurting the world more than ever. Concentration of wealth is a real threat.

I will call out racism, homophobia, bigotry, misogyny, sexism, wokeness if that's even a fucking thing, culture wars, conspiracy theories and just general bullshit. All with my lens of course. Against a backdrop of indifference and personal counselling from at least one commenter not to worry my pretty little head.

And maybe in these forums that's about right. And the right is fucking toxic, not because it's the right, but because we are in an age of fascism, symptomatic of 40 years of neoliberalism and the cult of the individual, and things are twisted so far that just being human with empathy gets you called commie or socialist or cuck.

Surely you all can see the parallels with the right in this country, the UK, and Trump and the Republicans? And there are common factors behind all of this, not least of which is deliberate disinformation, a bullshit culture war, yearning for a past that was actually really toxic to everyone, and the deliberate dismantling of being held to account and democracy.

Here's a great article from Anne Salmond, with a quote from it below.

Up the wahs, next year isn't our year, but if Webby has a good off season it could be. Have a great Saturday everyone.

"
In New Zealand, Vernon Small in the Post likewise described our coalition government as ā€˜deeply weird,ā€™ because many of its policy pitches also defy logic ā€“ cutting tax on tobacco to reduce harm from smoking; preaching democracy while seeking ministerial autocracy; slashing hospital budgets to cut waiting lists; a war on red road cones while engaging with climate denial; slamming civil servants, teachers, the health system, the economy ā€“ anyone but politicians who make Faustian bargains in the pursuit of power.

Again, its hard to disagree. Thereā€™s something very strange about this ā€˜three-headed taniwha.ā€™ I thought so after the last election, as I watched a video of Lord Hannan, a Tory peer from England and one of the authors of Brexit, addressing members of the new NZ coalition cabinet, who chortled approvingly as he praised them for aiming to cut government expenditure below 30 percent of GDP, when in Britain its 49 percent, and the health system and other public services in that country are collapsing.

I lived a few doors away from Anne Salmond for over 20 years in Stanley Bay.
She probably wrote this article from her double bay victorian villa which sits on half an acre of landscaped grounds.

You're so awesome Dean.

Actually, would you mind just being explicit with your purpose of your comment? Just so there's no ambiguity.

Socialist and champers come to mind.
I guess Anne rubbed shoulders with Maori academics at Auckland University and those introduced to her.
Come on Dean stop beating about the bush - clear language on the point you're making thanks.

And then maybe you can actually address the content of her article, which is spot on.

NZ was far better in 2018 before the massive shift to the leftā€¦ crime, poverty, economy, social services, education, etc all poorer due to Labour.

If you donā€™t accept all the stats then reflect that perhaps you were the frog thatā€™s was boiled!

Nothing factual provided, no context such as covid and the two year period after, nothing worth engaging with here mate.

Youā€™re complaining about a shift to the right when most of the changes have just been removing Labourā€™s changes back to how it was in 2018 - what was normal in the 10 years prior to Labour, with our rockstar economy.

Example - You sprout on about tax cuts for landlords but weā€™re changing back to how itā€™s been all of NZā€™s history and how the entire rest of the world taxes landlords. Labours unworkable changes are not the normal. Only people without a clue make you pay tax on a loss.

MaybeTop8 MaybeTop8 reflecting on on your racist govt claims.

My grandparent was adopted and possibly Maori.

How can dividing us by race have any importance if I canā€™t identify if Iā€™m Maori or not? Do I need all the extra help or not?

Didnā€™t the left campaign against entitlement based on race in South Africa?

Context - a child of mine is applying for entrance to university and the extra entitlement for Maori is staggering

Please detail the extra entitlement, having just attended an Auckland University as Maori I never received anything extra or different to my peers.

Act and National are intent on removing indigenous rights, allowing wholesale destruction of our natural resources and wealth extraction. Neoliberalism. Straight out of the Atlas playbook.

Your thing is your thing.

Rockstar economy. Bullshit. Propaganda from the fucking National Party and pure fantasy.

Kudos for keeping me commenting, it's really adding nothing to my life.

My child would be able to get these $1,000s in scholarships but because we canā€™t identify if we are Maori or notā€¦ šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Did you apply for your share of the $85m that my kids, as normal middle class kids donā€™t meet any criteria?

And here comes the true underlying racism, joined hobson's pledge yet?

Why is it racism?

Why does my potentially Maori child get disadvantaged over their cousin who is outperforming them at school - but can more clearly clarify they are Maori?

Thatā€™s racist. Nothing to do with the individual or their needs. Just a blanket difference of entitlement because of who you can identify with.

I donā€™t understand it. Entitlement based on race that us lefties hate šŸ˜‰
