Sports 🏏 Black Caps

I actually think he is better suited to the short format as a batsman who can bowl. I agree with you for test matches but we need a decent all rounder to replace him.
I'll put this Test Team to you?

1 T Lathem c
2 W Young / R Mariu
3 K Williamson
4 R Ravindra
5 D Mitchell
6 M Hay wk
7 M Santner
8 N Smith
9 K Jamieson
10 M Henry
11 W O'Rourke

12 G Phillips
13 A Petel
14 J Duffy
15 C Heaphy wk

We must have Mitch Santner in the team going forward. I know this lineup is demanding on the top 5 but it's test cricket, the top 5 must perform.

I feel like the black caps load up on more batting All-Rounders to help our top order but we can't have Phillips as an all rounder and not bowl a single over. Agree with you totally he's scrapped from the test team unless he's a top 5 batter.

It's close to what I would pick. I'm not sold on Santner but maybe he has finally clicked. Bowled exceedingly well in India and batted better than I've seen from him for a long time in Hamilton. Just that final innings bowling in Hamilton was a reminder that he isn't really a genuine spin option in all conditions like a Nathan Lyon is for example. I also feel that Daryl Mitchell might be close to time.

Potential line up?

Latham
Mariu
Young
Williamson
Ravindra
???? Batting all rounder (currently it would be Philips)
Hay
Smith
Henry
Another bowler???
O'Rourke

Another bowler could be Jamieson, Sears, Foulkes (still has some developing to do but can swing the ball), Santner, Patel, Bracewell

A quartet of Henry, Sears, O'Rourke, Smith would be close to the quickest group of bowlers that NZ would have put out on the park?

Certainly time to draw a line across a few players and move forward.

I think the biggest change needed will be the coach and who replaces him

Yeah great call on Nathan Lyon! Man he's exceptional! When I watch his bowling style, it's sort of like vettori, with a little run in and he generates a bit of swing to go with spin, really gets the ball moving.

I was thinking coach, would anyone be keen on Shane Jurgenson?

I wish they would have bowling speed guns at these domestic T20s.

There's a few guys on the domestic scene that look quite pacey. Id guess 140k+

Matt Fisher looks quite whippy, just lacks a bit of accuracy. While Andrew Hazledine the other day seemed to get the ball through very rapid. Not saying their pushing for higher honours at all, just be nice to know there are guys on the scene who at the very least offer a genuine pace option.

And some half decent commentators would be good too. I love my cricket but the NZ domestic T20 is a hard watch

I was thinking exactly the same listening to Scotty Stevenson and Frank Mackay just drone on today. FFS these commentators (and the ones their using in the internationals) are an entertainment black hole.

Give me these guys anyday

Apparently hazledine is 140+ and left handed! He had guppy on his three toes.

I think franky is quite knowledgeable, but then Stevenson comes over the top with a stupid comment or joke that is just diabolical!

Somebody start a petition! I want him gone yesterday!

Hopefully he does better than Brian Lara did last year.

Speaking of which i see Kane Williamson just needs one more century to equal Lara......and Lara played 26 more Test's than Kane!

Without doubt NZs greatest batsman. Just hope when he's done he gets his rightful recognition as one of the worlds all time greats.

Kyle Mills was a dick though. Lara is 50 and just got off the plane and Kyle couldn't even give him some wide half volleys to give the crowd a few Lara cover drives to see. I thought it was almost disrespectful to a legend of the game. I think Chris Gayle will be better prepared and I hope the cricket guys can at least be humble enough to give the crowd the entertainment they have come to see by bowling a few in his zone and we see at least a few Chris Gayle shots disappearing in to the crowd.

Looks like a big score for Sri Lanka coming up if they continue like this. Their tail hasn't been great batting wise though this series so another wicket or two will change things

The Sri Lankans seem to have loved batting against our spinners this series.
