Another thought I had in reviewing the day in my head. While Henry was excellent again today, O'Rourke was just absolutely hostile with his bowling. So good to see from a kiwi bowler.
Santner had a pretty good day also.
Runs and wickets catches don't forget

And the more I think about it the more I want to see with a new agressive coach for a run of tests as soon as we can this line up if fit

Latham
Mariu
Young
Williamson
Ravindra
Philips
Hay
Smith
Henry
Foulkes
O'Rourke

Look some of them might fail but we need to make changes and move on. This gives us a degree of balance with experience in the batting with Latham and Williamson, you have Young and Philips there to help out with Ravindra and Mariu to learn and develop under their guidance. With the bowling you have Henry with the experience and O'Rourke who is coming along nicely. Smith and Foulkes to develop and learn. Great mix of youth, experience and class I feel.

Everyone I talked to, kiwi fans, england fans, didn't rate Stead and thought Southee should have retired or been forced to do so at least a season ago.
It's fascinating chatting with the Barmy Army. They are die hard test fans so it's always great to hear their opinions on our side from an outsiders perspective. Very respectful as well.

Regarding your test side I agree with most of it. Kane is the incumbent at 3 and it's hard to see any change there until he retires. I still see a place for Mitchell for the next test window as well as he's still doing enough.

A long time before the next test.
See who's aiming up first

Yeah, it's good chat and 9/10 are knowledgeable and it's quite balanced, good natured opinions. It's great to hear their views and thoughts about the game.

For my test side I just like the idea of having our best batsman at 4 and that shifts Ravindra down a spot as well. I've loved what Mitchell has done for us over the last how ever many seasons but I'm firmly in the camp that we need to put a line in the sand and push forward with some new blood and unfortunately he doesn't make my side - based purely on his performances this season and that I don't think he has much more left to give.

What would your lineup look like?

That innings in India where everyone was collapsing around him and he staggered through to get us a competitive total, along with the last grasp effort in the first England test to try and get us to a total to bowl at gives him another season for me, though I don't know beyond that and it's doubtful he'll ever get back to his Wisden level run. Like you I'm ready for Mariu to have a go at the top.

My lineup would be:

1 Latham
2 Mariu
3 Williamson
4 Ravindra
5 Mitchell
6 Phillips
7 Hay
8 Smith
9 Henry
10 Sears
11 O'Rourke
12th Foulkes

I'd be happy with that side running out.
