It's a bit of weird situation given the Metcalf timeline last year and big re-signing, into whats happening with Boyd's form and opening of talks about re-signing. Can't imagine that happens too often that I can think of.

The team is definitely all round firing better this year, but if i'm thinking black and white i'm not sure what we saw from Metcalf last season at halfback would be producing the results we are this year at least in the same fashion.

People have a real rose tint of Metcalf from last season that he was the halfback messiah due to leading the redundant Dally Ms.

I personally have no issue with Metcalf, and feel extremely sorry for him with his injury history. But I feel we are moving into a really strong period for the club and I don't want the period to be hampered by the most important person in the team never being a consistent on the field.

Extend Boyd and re-sign my boy Chanel would be my choice at this stage. I agree with Sup about people saying only Boyd can fall off the perch, he may use this season as a stepping stone to higher heights. Crystal ball would be needed for any scenario as hes shown this year.

I don't really listen to the media dribble, so i'll just put that to the side and hope Metcalf is being team first. He hasn't shown anything previously to suggest otherwise.

Metcalf must be pretty disappointed by the fact that his injuries may have curtailed his career and the opportunity to win a comp.

DCE and Hunt i'd agree are getting to old for it.
I personally rate Campbell really high, but he has been shifted to 6 within the titans for Zane Harrison. So he might be a possible 7 but could be 5/8 to replace munster but would have to out compete mam.
Otherwise is it thomas dufty? Honestly he might be a smokey for at least making camp. QLD has loads of 5/8s but not many halves. If derden is injuried i think it comes down to boyd or campbell. That's surprsingly close to being real... At least until dufty and black hit the NRL fulltime.
And derden is limping in this eels game after fox rolled over his ankle. If he manages to get in, that'd be beyond massive for us. Big game exprence and a hunger for those moments are what wins you finals games.

Fuck. Damn then it's likely him first in line. For some reason i thought he was NSW. Ah and so is Forgety. Ok so 4-5th choice. Still a tiny chance. 1. Derden (maybe injured?), 2. Walker, 3. Forgety (maybe injured?), 4/5. Boyd or Campbell?.

Boyd could totally be a chance to be in the camp for SOO now. Legit 7 and he's only 26, Fogarty's 32 Munster 31 (Dearden can move back to 6 in the future) so could be down to Walker and Boyd long term.

If he's picked as cover or something then it's opening for Mets to come back so he should really be prepping with a goal in mind

As an avid QLD fan I'm not as confident that Boyd is in line for selection.

Billy hasn't been sniffing his farts all that much and also would be looking at halfbacks with a bit more show to them.

Boyd could get there, as I don't think we've seen him play close to his abilities. But he needs a bit more time in the kitchen, imo.

Yes bro.

Top 30 players can play in NSW cup or QLD cup and move up to NRL on the same weekend if the coach wants to do that.

No restrictions whatsoever provided you are on a top 30 contract.

“The flexibility is going to be there for the clubs to decide on who they select and when they play. That is possible for the clubs and something they will have to consider as part of their selection.”

He should have played some cup against the eels. Another two weeks of no game time isn’t good

Has literally no mileage to speak of other than a short but fabulous Daly m run last season. Not alot for a 27 year old

Really not deserving of so much support by our club, especially now that hes questioning our commitment to him
 
I'm Team Boyd.
At the moment.
I don't have a clear favourite.
While he and Chitty are winning more games than they're losing I'm all for it. And the same with the winning combination we have as a team. At the moment.
When we start losing too often due to injury or form then the players need to be rotated down to reserve grade and whoever's performing in reserve grade takes their place. For this thread Metcalf for CHT or Boyd

I think Metcalf needs to earn his place back in the team. If he's not the form half in the reserves then he stays there. The same as any other player would. I loved watching him last year and he did some amazing things but obviously he has issues with being fragile and I often felt he has some issues around some of his decisions and his tactical kicking and that he's got some limitations. Mind you so has Boyd. No ones perfect

The Warriors are a professional football team and they need to act like one at HQ. If 3 needs to go into 2 make it happen. And if anyone of the 3 is butthurt make them see the light or the door. They can't be dictated to by a single player or their manager.
We have good halves coming through the ranks and I'm sure one of them would give anything to step up a level
But for now Tanah Boyd is the man and Tanah and Chanel are the halves and they're winning

Some people are acting like its just like any other position, its not. You are the captain of the ship. Right now he isnt even a deckhand.

There is every chance that Metcalfs career completely fizzles out even moreso being backup to Boyd, you cant blame the guy for trying to maximise his upside.

The terms havent changed. Its like buying a faulty product. If i paid top dollar i expect every bang for my buck

It’s funny I can see your point been totally correct in the eyes of Mets and his family/management, leading to publicly sending the club a please explain letter and basically stating he’s being the big man sacrificing and playing 6 for the short term

And the narrative isn’t going over well with the NZ customers and media this week aka a backlash 😂 There is another high road hard working way but they’re leaning into the contract angle instead, life choices each to their own
