TeamList Dragons vs Warriors - [Round 7, 2024]

Oh shit! That's right 🤣 Yeah, Moving around our star back isn't the brightest idea. Rog is so versatile tho. Pomps will do a good Job in the forwards. But for how long? Lol. Just have an issue with his engine in the forwards is all. Hope he kills it

I know we've had a few injuries, but surely, surely the best time for us to blood Zyon Maiu’u would be right now?

I mean, Addin is leaving next year and with no real plans on the horizon as yet, I would be giving Ale and Zyon Maiu’u good minutes against the 'lower' rated opponents (no easy games this year however) to see how they respond.

That way, we can gauge how big they will be in our plans moving forward. Much, much better than getting to the end of this year and having no idea how they would go with an extended stint in first grade.

Yes gotta find out .Better sooner than later.Might even get a pleasant surprise.

The "insert random outside backs name here" crowd must be frothing over the thought that their dream may finally come true 😂

Players that can make that transition such as Aitken you can spot from a mile away, they are animals in how they approach their work. I don't mind Pompey as a centre, but I don't see the dog in him to be a edge backrower.

Guess Zyon Maiu’u will come on to the bench, but if it's either him or Pompey and it's only going to be 10-12minutes if no injuries so could pick either really.

Others have stated this previously about Ale and I am starting to lean that way. Would like to see him get a start and build into a game with some longer minutes, it would appear that would suit him better. Maybe he'll get that chance if Barnett is picked for origin and none of our middles are back by then. Or maybe he'll get a chance in 2025 with no AFB.

Lomax back to centre is good, flick passes into the 10th row of the stands are back on the menu.

Webby is patient asf. And has a plan he communicates to every one.

Jazz 4-8 weeks, sounds like a tear so probably 8…
As much as I love Webster I don't like the quotes by Webby in the article "I am excited about the injuries even though they are not ideal as they give others opportunities".
I don't like people who feel obligated to sound positive about everything. Hopefully it is because Webby is a second year coach. Next time Webby just say "Yes it is not ideal to have injuries but we have to respond and we have prepapred all off season for others to step up".

Sort of like a coach at half time when one your blokes got a red card for the match in the first half telling you it is a great opportunity and you should be thankful and relish this chance to win short handed.
Call a spade a spade Webby !!!!

Would it make more sense to put Rts at 13, Tohu to Prop & Pompey to center? Purely off of Rogers engine. Pomps would be fucked after 5 minutes lol. Rts can go all day.

My theory was a mid game move.

RTS to middle, Pompey to centre.

I very much doubt they would start in this fashion.

I thought of this scenario only if Zion was deemed not ready - but I think they will go with Zion over Pompey

I liken it a bit to Test Cricket Wrighty when sometimes it is better for a team to be bowled out, setting up a total that is tricky but chasable rather than a captain being too scared declare, batting on too long.

I think what Webby is trying to say is that it has forced his hand and we get to see how good this crop of juniors really are.

He is right that with no injuries, Laban does not get a debut yet, nor does Zion this week if it is to happen

Yeah there are endless number of permutations despite people trying to say this is a clear cut thing.
Manly's Reggies ran straight through Zyon Maiu’u a number of times and he was getting owned in the middle last week.

That makes this a two horse race on its own.

Fair enough. I just didn't like the wording. Sounded corporate. I think i am being odd about this and that I am in the wrong. Probably Webster gives two or three interviews a week and you can't get the wording perfect in every interview. I still think he will give better interviews when he has 10 years of experience compared to now.

Interesting post.
There are aspects of Websters communication that irritate me, but that is not his fault, that is flaw of mine having studied the way people talk....a lot....

Every NRL coaches communication style gets on my tits, Webster less than most.

The thing about Websters endless positivity is that he believes it, he is one of these guys that thinks being positive all the time will manifest into reality.

I don't think he can help it, he just keeps winning so you don't wanna change that.

What's that saying?

There's only two types of coaches: ones that are fired and ones that are about to be fired.

Pretty impressive that he has such a positive demeanor, I reckon.

Yes

I had dinner with my close friend on Friday who coaches top level basketball. I discussed coaching with him and he said the Coaches confidence and expectations of a victory rub off on the players who may lack self belief especially the inexperienced and younger ones. So there is an obligation for coaches to be positive because of their job description and the science of winning.

I am a manager for a large organisation and around 2005 to 2010 a new style of communicating really started to permeate my sector and the business world that is called "Authentic communications". When the sales targets have been missed to admit it and not try to put a spin on it. It leads to greater employee trust in a management when they get answers like Yes or No from management instead of answers designed to motivational to listen to or have sophisticated words.
Authentic communication is short sentences that get to the point quickly, admitting fault if necessary, and no buzz words. This a 180 for the business world compared to when I started in it 30 years ago.

I really do think I am reading too much into one sound bite and who knows maybe even the interviewer misquoted him slightly so anything could happen. Whatever Webster is doing it is working and if part of him is putting positive spin words on to an interview instead of answering how some dude on the Internet called Wrighty would prefer then he should keep being himself. He needs to have his own style whatever that is and not listen to noise from outside. So yes I agree with you and I think I am in the wrong on this. Although I maintain the point that in 5 to 10 years he will improve further at interviews.

Yes a manager I have had conversations like:

That was shithouse. Do your fucken job properly.

With some people that works.

Also had

There are a number of opportunities for improvement that we can harness here. Things like....

Hey when you did (A) that was not what you're supposed to be doing. Bloke that you "helped" was supposed to do it.

Their response - they couldn't do it so I did it.

Me again - That has value but identifying the deeper issue is that there will be more value in upskilling Bloke so that you AND he can do it.

This is a very different world from a generation or two ago but I see value in the old. Webby knows what works in the NRL in 2024

IMO, I think you are misinterpreting the comments.

I like Webster and his approach to the game, media, interviews. Look at the press conferences after the games. He is approachable, engaging, considered. I like that he focuses on what we can control. So easy to use injuries, the ref, the weather etc as an excuse or allow it to enter the conversation. I love how he dismisses questions that try to invade that. Some might see it as relentless positivity. I see it as focusing on the areas that are important that you can influence. Otherwise you get hung up on things that you don't have control over, which gets you where we had been for a number of years. You don't get the resilience we are showing or the improvement we have seen doing that.

Could he perhaps phrase things differently? Possibly. The message is consistent though and I think it's the right one.

It's not a lie if you believe it, and I agree I think he really does, I think it's possible he meant he literally enjoys these kinds of challenges.
