Lomax is on my over rated list. I don't ever want him coming to the Warriors. RFM is good for an error every 2nd game. That doesn't sound like a lot but really it is.
He is great in the air - Montoya will need to cover CNK when Hunt puts the bombs up.

Pompey can play in the second row just like Capewell and Marata can play center for QLD and Kiws
Euan Aiken, Brad Parker are other examples of centers moving into the forwards.
With Ali covering center for now and heaps of the props injured it's makes sense.
If Zyons form was good I would pick him but he had to earn that spot
Pompey's earned the jersey imho
Simon Mannering too of course, another ex Center to the forwards, Ruben Wiki before him.

If Webster goes with Pompey over Zyon Maiu’u it will largely relate to having a Rookie already on the bench in Laban.

Two Rookies on the same bench is fraught with risk over a safer option like Pompey who is more predictable.

Timing two Rookies so you dont have both on the field at the same time maybe a headache Webster prefers to avoid until his hand is forced.

If two Rookies have off games, you probably go close to losing the game.

With two 80 minute second rowers, it’s hard to know where Pompey would come in unless one of Ford or Capewell goes to the middle for a spell? Or Pompey plays 13 for a spell for Tohu?

Webby usually plays 2 bench forwards and give another 0-15 minutes at the end, and the back cover spelling Egan or sitting out.

Pompey could be injury cover only and CHT plays the 15 minutes as a lock at the end, just means Ale and Laban have to play bigger minutes

I think Ale is primed to play bigger minutes. Cut his teeth last year, had a big preseason and has had 15mins game time here and there. My bet is he is ready

Euan Aitken is the most recent example of a centre switching to the second row.

Yes, however Aitken was always one of the fittest and best defensive centres in the league. Completely different style players

Pompey topped the preseason training comp in 2023. Last year we started the season the fittest team in the league.

He is fit. They are different types of players though, I agree, Aitken spent his career enjoying the off the mark speed Pompey never had.

Also as far as defence goes, Pompey is up there, his lateral movement and strength is there or thereabouts.

I dunno if he is suited to the forwards when running with a short wind up into a wall of middles though.

But he could do a job in a game if needed, probably more injury cover whereby you rejig a side mid game for the sake of throwing fresh legs out there, the type of gap filling the Kiwis have been doing for decades due to lack of specialists and depth.

Which is why Webster could have three centers on the field at the same time and it would not mean anything other than another tackler and ball runner doing a burst of minutes to keep the tempo up and to avoid having two NSW cup future stars under pressure in the same game.

There is also the scenario where you lose players like flies during a game and or the Ref bins a guy and you are playing with twelve, in that scenario, where everyone is exhausted, the NSW cup pairing option is probably less attractive than a veteran out there racking up tackles.

Under Webster we've had Sifakula, Laban, Roache & Going all debut after being outside the 17 on the Tuesday prior. I think that Zyon Maiu’u getting a spot on the bench is a hell of a lot more likely than a positional change to the forwards for either Pompey or RTS
