Nationals 3 waters solution - basically keeping it how it is but drive higher standards:

National Government will set and enforce strict water quality standards and require councils to invest in the ongoing maintenance and replacement of their vital water infrastructure, while keeping control of the assets that their ratepayers have paid for.

National will:
  • Repeal Three Waters and scrap the four co-governed mega-entities
  • Restore council ownership and control
  • Set strict rules for water quality and investment in infrastructure
  • Ensure water services are financially sustainable

“Under National, councils will be required to demonstrate a clear plan to deliver ongoing investment in water infrastructure. Those plans will need to be approved by the Minister of Local Government.

“While water quality regulator Taumata Arowai will set strict standards for water quality, National will establish a Water Infrastructure Regulator within the Commerce Commission to set and enforce standards for long-term water infrastructure investment.

“Councils will be required to ringfence money for water infrastructure and not spend it on other services instead.
That is a nothing policy. Making Council's who don't have enough money ringfence some for water isn't helpful at all.
If you're in a town or city I recommend you get a water tank. Otherwise you might be fkd

On the Gold Coast now you are limited to drive into Surfers Paradise.
Light rail goes through there
You can still drive in and around it but some prev roads closed and are a tram line some are one way and there is hardly any on street parking. There is one car park which council was selling but have now retained
The council have stopped any iniatives to improve traffic in the area - so if you want to drive there take your chances maybe congested and no parking
Anyone with half a brain will use the tram

Eventually cars will be reduced in cbd s and the like.
I mean Captain Dick Head in his Ranger/ Hilux/ Triton/ Navara/Gwm/ Landcruiser/ Prado/ Pajero Sport is only polluting the city centre with noxious diesel fumes but of course looks good doing it with pedestrian crushing bull bar on the front half a living quarters sitting on the roof and an unfriendly Rottweiler in the tray body.

Newshub's been leaked financial statements showing all 16 polytechs are essentially broke.

The worst are Whitireia and WelTec, which are $28 million in deficit. Waikato Institute of Technology is $22.5m in the red, Open Polytechnic is not far behind on $22m and Toi Ohomai is nearly $21m. The deficit at all 16 polytechnics totals more than $185m.

"That is absolutely correct. That is a result mainly of the unified funding scheme that the previous Government brought in," Simmonds said.

BRUTAL.
Well that's not surprising either, money is made through student numbers. Covid and government policy killed those and they haven't recovered because we locked down for too long probably - rightly or wrongly.

How much to pay redundancies for current management and hire new management for 10 separate entities? It's in place, they should have given it a chance to work a few years post COVID restrictions.
Wonder if Simmons is simply out for revenge, she's the ex CEO of SIT.

Wiz
I would have thought the Kiwi rail engineers and finance guru s would have been a political
They are servants of the current government minister. They give advice but it’s based on the goals, policies and objective defined by the current government.

What I’m saying is we need an independently designed strategy that both National and Labour can agree on and work towards, even if either side picks their focus (eg Labour public transport and National highways) but they work to a common strategy rather than scrapping the last lots plans and starting again all the time.

They would be bankrupt before they got there.

As I understand it they are drowning in debt and imploding. Damage is being done through loss of key staff, damage to reputation and damage to credibility.

They need fixing fast or there will be nothing left to rebuild from…

Damage is via lack of enrollments. The new minister even said so.

The KR engineers bean counters don’t work for the minister
They are just KR employees

Strategy s focus groups

Unlimited talk fest

If the current ferries die in Cook St and there are fatalities it’s on the Nats heads

Roro vessels are nasty very quickly when things go pear shaped and Cook. straight is unforgiving

You must have been asleep while the RB maintained monetary easing stimulus for far too long then had to increase the OCR above and beyond what most economists felt was needed to contain inflation. While you were asleep, it was your friends in the Labour Govt that were the Govt not this current lot.

It's two sides to the same coin.... inflation was caused both by the government and by the Reserve Bank when they worked together to stimulate the economy. It's totally wrong to look only at one branch without considering the impact the other had on inflation. Just in the same way Willis is wrong placing the blame solely on the previous government, just as Campbell is wrong to place the blame on the RB.

Let's not forget the world - supply chain shortages due to wars, covid, etc. High petrol prices, that's not in our control - hey, maybe we should switch to walking, evs and cycling!

Except of course this mob have cancelled everything that's good for the human race.

Right wing cancel culture!!

Note that every country went through and is going through inflation.

And yet again, like Campbell, you've decided to completely ignore the previous government's role.

Just like you're ignoring everything else Mike

Happy xmas to you, Dean and the wiz.
Try reading my first post again where I said Willis was wrong putting the blame as much as she did on the previous government. Like I said, you and Campbell are ignoring the previous governments role….. just as Willis didn’t acknowledge the Reserve Bank’s role.
