I don't think some have adjusted to the idea that not every player picked up by Cappy is gonna be for NRL pathway as their main reason for signing.
Harper was clearly signed for his experience, specifically his passing game, which is excellent - ergo it is about finding people who will feed the players we want to grow. I've ranted about this point regarding our halves and why we sign so many
Or it's about their game sense,
Harper helps our halves by being in position and timing his draw and pass, when I say helps our halves I'm talking growth and development.
Fundamentally why we struggle to look like other top four clubs:
Picture what it takes to look structured like Aussie sides then consider our actual reality.
A lack of awareness
Leads to poor positing
Off timing
Leads to a poor platform or no opportunity to run - draw the defender - pass the ball.
Low accuracy with catching and passing means players reaching for ball = no front foot ball - clunky stilted attack = lost shape to the formation = lost timing = everybody out of position = ball carrier takes the tackle and dies with the ball.
So what's the solution? You bring in a
Harper and it helps multiple positions to develop fluidity and structure.
For too many years the Warriors have let good young wingers die on the vine for lack of service from the center three quarter.
The other thing people berating
Harper's signing need to get a grip with is the elephant in the room *the Warriors can't fill their roster with half decent imports any given year because fundamentally people don't want to come here, ergo a flirtation with a
Morgan Harper for one year is neither here nor there.
