Recruitment Warriors 2026/2027 Recruitment & Retention

With it being mentioned of our limited amount of wingers, do people rate this guy? Looking at his stats when at panthers and to here, he’s progressed quite well and has a decent strike rate. Potentially other players favoured over him for only appearing in 10 games? One thing I remembered from preseason was he had a great read from the wing and put a good shot on. Looking at Casey McLean’s instagram, I think he goes out with a relation of his?
To be honest, I don't rate him.

We have much better options in Jersey Flegg.

Surely a factor not lost on the powers that be when it comes to end of the season review?

Ranked 12th out of 17 teams it was evident (even with Luke in the team) attack was limited. Ill be interested to see how they go about addressing this wether thats through recruitment or maybe a philisophical shift(less grind more offload game maybe)

That said grind, high completions, and discipline are attributes that have been largely lacking through most of Warriors history and we needed those KPI's embedded in our DNA if we even wanted to get on the same playing field as the top outfits, i feel Webby's by and large acheived that hence im all on board with what he's done with the club thus far. But yes evolving and unlocking a threatning attacking game will be his next challenge as an evolving coach himself i guess.
Its pretty obvious to me that Webster will learn a lot from this season. We have to remember that he is still on L plates as far as an NRL coach is concerned.
Look at the GF coaches & their backgrounds for evidence. Night & DAY

Assuming AKP comes in that gives us 30/30 for '26 - so we either sit on that or release someone from the the top squad ... can't see where we might be getting anyone for ''26 from either... does that mean this thread is all about '27? What about Kali, surely he'll be on a supplementary?

Mellars, Kali and Norris surely in that order in terms of wing development. Norris could be our Rueben Garrick.. Dudes electric with goal kicking. Couple years away though, should be getting some NSW time next season.
I would have Kali above Mellars. Best thing about Mellars is he can jump and catch the ball. Offensively I would much rather Kali.

With Mellars brought in and links to AKP, they obviously not seeing what they’re looking for either. Still only 23 but doesn’t look to be in their plans. I see he got a shot at centre later in the season after all other appearances wing or replacement, probably replaced by the guys your talking about if he hangs around?

Mellers ability in the air is the obvious selling point on him. It's a different ball game when you have a Coates or Tupou on one flank.

No idea if he can get even halfway to them, but it would be nice to have an aerial threat not named Leka.

Berry, Ali, and Kali can't stay healthy. Very frustrating that our Zeisty Boys are getting let down by our Broken Bros otherwise we'd have a lot more attacking firepower to work with.

We’re actually putting a bit of height there for that aerial game that Laban is quite handy in too, but Halasima is just special. He’s not overly tall but must have an amazing eye where he locks in on the ball, perhaps from his growing up playing tennis? EIT is another player that can be quite handy around an attacking kick and stands around the height of Laban. Gannon on the way also stands around their height but I haven’t seen enough of him to know how good he is in this part of the game?

For wing development, I’d go Kali > Mellars > Norris > Pasikala > Tauafiafi-Iutoi

All five should see NSW cup time on the wing next year

We also have Connor Bowden and Ezekiel Davidson-Faaiuaso who are both SG ball next year and are quality wings

Comp doesn't start until October next year so I assume players either play out their contracts next year or they get bought out.

Wondering if we haven't heard anything more on AKP because we were waiting for this. George usually has a "only release if we have a replacement" policy.

Names thrown about...

RTS: Deserves a pay day to finish off.

Papa: Often injured, lighter comp will suit him fine.

Jye Gray: lol who cares

Lomax: Left the Dragons for "less money" because he didn't want to be a winger. Becomes a winger anyway so decides to piss off for big money.

This is going to disrupt the player market now is so close to being green lit

And surely RTS is one of the ten

Cricket has been ruined by these types of competitions. I really thought league was going to be immune. It may not be as bad as cricket, but it has really taken the fun out of a lot of sport. Case in point this week with our home summer rivalry against Australian played (or not played) in shitty spring weather with key players committed elsewhere.

Be very scared of huge contracts being offered for a small amount of committed time. If players can earn more than what they are in a shorter window, we may lose a lot of players in their prime in the future.

I know exactly what you mean - dilutes the soul and traditions from competitions.

Ironically the concept will be doomed without the soul and tradition so will likely just be a case of the NRL trying to weather it all.

A few different people are adamant that Kali is Top 30 for 2026. If so, that puts us at x30 2026 NRL contracts plus Cleary the only publicly know Development one.
If Kali is Top 30 then we have him, RTS, DWZ, Mellars and Tuaupiki as genuine Wing options plus the smoke surrounding AKP. Who out of those spends time in the offseason also training at Centre? Or will that responsibility fall to CNK & Fatialofa?
