I'm kind of surprised they aren't keeping it in ChCh when Te Kaha is set to open in April next year. While I would selfishly want it in Akl, if you hosted it in ChCh this year, wouldn't you want the One New Zealand Warriors as one of the opening events of One New Zealand Stadium?

Have to imagine that with the planning an ANZAC day game would need, they can't run the risk of a delay pushing the opening back a few weeks? that or they want their precious Crusaders to open it

Rumour is that Te Kaha will have whatever the Super Rugby Magic Round is called over ANZAC weekend next year. That will more or less be their grand opening.

Warriors probably follow soon after in May / June (maybe June as Super Rugby will be finished then and I guess Crusaders will heavily backend their home games to April and May)

As a Wellingtonian, this is very lovely indeed, though surprising as I had it in my head ChCh had the ANZAC game set for more than one year? I'm not against ANZAC being a rotating location going all around NZ each year though.

Since we have a home game in Wellington and Christchurch next year, it means one of 2 things is happening.

- Only 9 home games in Auckland
- Magic Round will be an away game

selling out the cake tin and the new chch stadium you would think would be good revenue to offset not taking the magic round money.

though apparently we now play better on the road these days

Before my time as an average player and even worse referee but it takes stickability to do a job at a high level when you are either a hero or a villain every Saturday.

I spent a lot of time on the Gold Coast so didn't see a lot of the guy but I understand that he refereed at test level

I recall he ref’d a test v Australia in 1987 at Lang Park which the Kiwis won 13-6

My recollection was that the Aussies weren’t impressed with his performance

Biased, yes because I am Auckland based, but I find it very annoying to move games away from Mt Smart

9 is ridiculous for a home season. How many games do the likes of Roosters play in Sydney region and Broncs play in Brissie. That's a massive travel advantage as well as players comfort of home. I fear that this is driving more towards a commercial success rather than a performance outcome.

I believe the Warriors want to become the biggest sporting brand in NZ sport.

It stands to reason they will want to be visible right across the country in that goal.

To be fair, the commercial success will translate into on-field results if it allows better back end facilities, better support staff, more junior talent support, etc.

The game in NZ will benefit from a financially successful Warriors.
