General League Lounge with Shaun Johnson

Finally figured out the VPN thing to start watching these clips. Love SJ's considered take on the Penrith game. Penrith are the OG team when it comes to the gameplan we have perfected this year. So we needed to be perfect to beat them at their own game. We weren't last week and neither were the dogs tonight. No need to get our knickers in a twist over the loss as some have (ie Warriors Fanatics). The boys are still on track for a successful year. Expect a bounce back this week in Brisbane.

Maybe our toughest games will be dogs/panthers this year with the same game plan. dogs actually started having some success when they moved it around early against the panthers system funny enough, they just lost their way when they did the fatal reshuffle lol

If the Panthers/ Bulldogs and our style become the winning formula then the games in trouble.

Happy for us but in all honesty defence first and effort over talent is a boring style where you rely on the opposition to lose.

8 points to 6 games like Panthers vs Bulldogs 🥱

Hope Melbourne smash all 3 of us playing positive footy (actually just knock the Panthers and Bulldogs out before losing to us in the GF) 🤣

I guess it depends on one's tastes. As a rugby league purist, nothing disgusts me more than horrendous defensive displays where matches are a 50-48 shootout. Ie every Broncos, Cows or Tits game. The physical contest with two gun packs going at it for 80 minutes is what makes rugby league so absorbing for me. That Dogs vs Panthers match or our game vs Raiders a couple weeks ago is what every game ought to emulate.

Tacklebots are necessary but whole forward packs are tacklebots now.

And it comes at a cost of explosiveness and speed.

There’s no way Ford and Lussick are props in the traditional game.

I don’t blame the teams, I think it’s a smart adaption to speeding up the game. Teams full of slow second rowers that have endurance; forwards that hold back on attack to save themselves for defence; fullbacks as metre eaters that leave the halfback high and dry in attack; kicks for territory instead of try scoring opportunities.

Yawn… except when it’s us winning 😉

Good to see Barney on the show

SJ seems to be a lot more fluent now. 24min of content still too rushed. Good to see different audiences coming in each week now.

Wonder if Ford the sponsor is selling more cars 😂

It's way too short. He's literally speed running through the program. Sky needs to see the obvious and give him 48 minutes.

He even had a bloody 60 second timer on 🤣

Need more breathing room, we didn't even get play by play analysis, can easily put in behind the scenes with a player/staff each week like One Take and chat some recruitments, more fan questions, a comfortable 48min easy.

I know what you mean, but I still think we need to be good at this style for situations where we're pushed into it.

The historical Warriors version of a gameplan has been:
1. Use Talent.
2. If Talent Works, Whether Points or Repeat Sets, Go To 1.
3. If Talent Does Not Work, Um...Ah...Yeah...

So, yep, much more enjoyable than a Grind, but if we end up at 3, we need to Grind, even if only for a bit.

Nowadays we are Grinding first, bash 'em enough and the tries will flow being the idea, I guess. But are we still bashing when the bashing that's been done is enough?

Of course, the NRL could legislate against boring. That's actually a weakness that a lot of people seem to see as a strength of Rugby League. The rulebook is so small that there's a lot of challanges, re-interpretations etc that clubs have made because, hey, the rules don't say they can't and they work for us. Obvious examples, crusher tackles, gangtackling, whoever started those things, apparantly an argument between Melbourne and Sydney as to who tried it and had success with it first.
