Prince is s gun player who made two poor clubs look better than they were. But he isn't name like Thurston, Cleary or Sterling.
Bit random but i was actually chatting to Prince yesterday.

He's in Whakatane playing for my mates team in the big annual Touch tournament they have every year. We have our Masters team in and he had rung my mate up the day before, said he was in the country and if there was a spot he would play.

Apparently he was set to play for the Aussie mens 40s team in last years World Cup but the Bronco's (he coaches the womens NRL side) put their foot down told him they want him concentrating on that.

Haha i even mentioned he had just been picked for an all time great fantasy game i was in......he thought whoever chose him was mad!

Did you tell him they paid me $400k to take him?

My thoughts, I'm not going to talk about the strengths of sides because they are all fairly obvious so I'm going to try and pick out weakness and having to be quite pedantic about it because they are all strong sides.

Tyrael - strong, balanced side. Perhaps missing some stronger picks in certain positions where you have good players but not great. Ie Shilington and Gillet.

Wiz - a very interesting team. I can't get past a couple of things though. Wiz at 6, he has struggled when paired with other strong halves previously imo. But the biggest is Betham at hooker and RTS on the bench with no other hooker .

Defence - outside backs are good players but many other sides are better. Also no hooker cover on the bench.

Mr B - surprised you aren't starting Jake, making him captain and then playing him for only 10 minutes. Also, while the two hookers are both great I don't feel like they compliment each other or the team together. Essentially a two player bench for me.

Inruin - no weaknesses of note

Naumaifooty - good side but something just isn't quite clicking for me. Wighton in the centres, SJ as second fiddle at 6, Lamb on the bench.

Billy Spleen - this could be the winner. If Brett Mullins was in there. Perhaps a prop light on the bench.

Ccees - Mini on the wing? Best ever fullback until Slater turned up IMO. I'd swap him for K. Hunt.

Boats + Hoes - Bowen at fullback possibly the weakest in the comp. Wing at 9, was an awesome 14 but I'm not sure as starting hooker.

Muddogz - Brandy at 6. Having said that Thurston will probably play more like a 6 like he did for example in origin with that future hall of Fame half, Scott Prince. Maybe a prop light on the bench?

Man, the more I look at it, the harder it gets to narrow them down. I've watched from the sidelines for all the other games except for this and the previous one. Would this be the closest competition yet? Because trying to find weaknesses in each team significant enough to rule them out of voting is very, very difficult.

Good solid team, very 2000’s feel. I like your backs and like Tedesco. I would have bought Asotasi off the bench and you missed out not playing TMM over Prince - at least you could have sold it as a personal pick 😉
As good as TMM is, he doesn't fit in the Champions of Champions yet. End of the year he'll qualify. Consider him on a development contract.

Picks I had trouble getting on board with: despite being a multiple premiership winner, has To’o arrived on the international stage? Likewise Hamiso? Even Manu despite winning a golden boot I glanced twice at. Great team. You will be close to the podium if not on it.
Good analysis wrighty.
It’s an interesting one- how much weight do u put on international performances.
To’o for me is in the discussion as greatest wing ever- no other winger has been as important to their teams success as him. The only winger I may have taken ahead of him in this game is offiah.
Hammer is a bit of a personal pick- maybe a bit early in his career but having been to a few dolphins games, this guy is something else- never seen a player like him- absolute freak.
Manu is the only center to ever win the golden boot so his international credentials are beyond reproach.

Great defence.

As I’ve said, current players reputation will grow after they retire. I feel they are under appreciated when compared against a past player that had the same sort of impact.

It's a funny game how things worked out and also in people's different perceptions on players.

I was pretty confident after 5 or 6 rounds, then everyone elses squads started filling out, improving and it was game on.

I think Scott Prince is an absolute gun player that played for average clubs. Still managed to guide one to a premiership and possibly unlucky not to get one for the other.

I did think others may pick him as a weakness though. I had planned on getting a black sheep and then use my round master bonus to give me a chance at Sterling, the only half left that would be an improvement imo. That would have given me $1,190,000. Unfortunately the criteria came earlier and to add to it @Defence got him with a bid of $1,186,000 😔
That’s the only reason I didn’t go all in on mcgahn the previous round- wanted to keep enough in the bank to outbid u for sterlo.
U actually changed the whole coarse of the game for me because I had a fair idea who I wanted in my spine but when I saw u were picking up Hughes for 500k I just couldn’t have it.
Then I thought well if I’m gonna stick with him as my 7 who were the best players to surround him with so I came up with the idea to have a fully storm spine but none of them were coming up and by the time smith finally did prices were at an all time high and people were desperate for hookers so I was priced out which meant I had to go in hard for grant which affected my cap for the rest of the game.
That’s the thing with these games- sometimes all your plans fall into place, other times the game takes u where it will.

Yeah I think players from the 80s are probably a bit undervalued too- the sweet spot seems to be 1990- 2020
Retired long enough for the legend to grow but not so long ago to be forgotten about.

Interesting take on the teams. I don’t agree on Walters & Elias not being complimentary however - in my opinion they were quite different players & would have worked really well as a starter- bench tandem. Elias coming on either towards the end of the first half for a stint or partway through the second half to finish the game would be mint I reckon.

I thought too many of the criteria were relevant to more recent players. Something more fun about reminiscing about the players from the 80’s & early 90’s… although any criticism of To’o is plain wrong. Agree he’s in the conversation for best winger of all time, definitely top 5.

Yeah, I'm not sure, particularly with Elias. Bit abrasive. I kind of feel with them both being 80 minute players it's kind of wasted having both of them not fully utilised rather than one and a utility. Great problem to have though and I'm sure some other teams would take either in a heart beat

If we’re taking personalities into consideration then there’s duds everywhere!

Very good player and has benefited from being in the most dominant team of the last 5 years. Not sure I could stretch to top 5 though in the 1980 to present period. 🤔

@Wrighty we need to get that top 100 sorted!

Finally had some time to look at these teams and the teams through the game that i thought were shoe in's, its not so clearcut anymore. For what its worth (and for transparency while my backline stacks up against any here, there's several forward packs here id say are stronger(

Tyrael - i mean you had Hancock so that was already a tick in my books. Super strong spine but i dont know if that 2nd row or bench will cut it

Wiz - thats a beast of a 3/4 line youve got there (id be chipping in behind them all day) Very strong forward pack but as mentioned Monty at hooker and wether Freeman would be happy taking a back seat potential stumbling blocks

Defence - epic spine, strong forwards, probably still too early for those outside backs to reach legend status yet the only thing that may count against it.

Mr B - im looking through that team for areas it may not be as strong but im struggling tbh. The only thing i will say is i find it hard to judge players before my era (like the rest of NZ i was 89 GF convert). I dont doubt their legend but Steve Rogers and even Ellery Hanley to an extent (although he's one guy i wish i had seen in his prime) are before my time.

Inruin - i think this is a solid side, youve covered most bases but has it got enough GOATs to seperate it from the pack?

NaumaiFooty - i love that backline...i mean i really love that backline, however i think there's a distinct drop off when u get to the pack (im probably in the same boat as well tho)

Billyspleen - cant seperate yours and Mr Bs for strongest pack....but yeah....Mullins? Brett Stewart probably has better numbers and it might be my 90s bias, but while i rate Billy Slater the best fullback of my time and have seen a lot of eletric fullbacks.....at full stride and at full flight ive yet to see anything match Mullins.

Cces - Strong across the board. Thats a great balanced pack and a strong bench, your 1 and 6 the only ones i would question.

Mud dogz - this team sort of came out of nowhere for me, the more im looking at it the more i like it. Thats one helluva spine

The one player who singled handedly elevated his contestants team the most was Cameron Smith. Even on paper he made Muddgoz's other picks look better. Next time i play I am going all in on Smith.
