Gameday Witzer Pre-Season challenge round 2- Warriors vs Manly

Tafua, Ali are the positives - the rest idk man
Putoko has a lot of potential. Pasikala was hard to put down & ran strongly. PlRodney Tuipulotu-Vea is a big powerful kid. Different body shape to what we usually have. Loved his energy.
Stowers Smith was the best of our props.
Jack Thompson looks to have vision to match his speed.

Spine was mid as fuck. Hard for the rest of the team to shine when you have a slow, boring robot like spine in Egan , Boyd , Hansen(At least has speed) Doyle.

I don't know the spelling of this name but Tui Vaiea number 21 was very exciting I thought he turned the momentum towards us for our mini comeback.
Jack Thompson I can see the reasons for the hype. Needs some time in NSW cup.
I thought the two Manly halves Large and Walsh were superb and the difference between the sides.
I thought Leka was invisible at centre. He should go back to 2nd row asap.
I don't care we lost although I am happy we weren't blown out and it was competitive.
Happy no injuries.
Vaimauga superb while he was out there. He has gone next level this off season.
Very concerned they took Leiataua off the field to manage his ongoing ankle injury concerns. We are in for a long season at centre.
Good hit out overall. Entertaining to watch. We will go ok this season. Expect us to look more slick when our top guns turn up next week.

Love the Warriors, but am a bit worried after attending the training then seeing us outclassed by Manly in Matts, Ball and this trial. Clumsy, zero direction, and look frantic when we do anything besides basic hit ups. I was far more impressed by what those young Manly players produced. At least they were trying things. I didn't need to see us win by 60 today, but was expecting a lot more than what I saw today. Ive been a die hard since the late 90s, so have experienced all kinds of preseasons. Personally, I am a bit worried so far.

Which ones?
Who Webster may look to elevate into NSW Cup, Inch's position, Gannon needing work, Mellars having promise, Boyd being a pick that is too conservative, Stowers pushing for regular time, Healy being a bench player rather than a starter (never a question for me), that our recruitment and development team have made some good choices because the attributes of the players pushing up look spot on.

Interesting to see how CNK & TMM go tomorrow! Surely Shirley, Boyd isn’t locked in for Round 1?! Thompson or Jett still feel a bridge too far… for now.

Hansen runs a lot, maybe too much, but to be fair he was making half-breaks with about as much support as a broken sports bra.

Kick pressure was non-existent, line speed even worse. It looked like last weekend’s juniors hit copy-paste. Ford, as always, runs at one reliable setting: cruise control. Never tires… but does he actually bend the line or will he add much punch off the bench? More questions than answers today.

Being $1.20 favourites was probably the first red flag when teams dropped. Did the boys accidentally prepay the end-of-season trip?

And serious question, was bookmaker John from Pakistan getting late calls from hardcore punters CG & Cappy? 🤔

yeah hard agree on the halves, not sure if it's fair to lump Doyle (never going to challenge for a 1st grade spot) or Egan in with that ... thought Healey was disappointing, Tafua looked good tho

Have you attended a few trainings and been underwhelmed?

Egan was good was he? The tempo around the ruck picked up a lot when Healey came on. Tafua was awesome tho

Other comments
1) Hanson played like a Hungus - I didn't see him pass once during the 70 minutes he was out there.
2) Mellars was nervous had jitters for the first ten minutes. Had a much better second half.
3) Putuloko the centre - is very nearly a good player. Just needs a bit more experience. Some promise there.
4) Good outing for Gannon to blow out some cobwebs. I was impressed with his body blows he put in while defending. After a while they stopped running at him HAHA !!! Pity he dropped the ball on his try opportunity but you can't win them all.
5) Doyle is a tough little cookie at fullback. Played like he had some experience under his belt.

This was a training run. That’s all. No shape was shown on attack, we basically tried to walk them in. All this was about was getting miles on the clock and game conditioning.

I’m not bothered whatsoever. It’s a team who needed a run. We got that and nice to lose actually - prefer that actually so feet get back on the ground.

Timing blooked off and if anything were too keen.

These preseason trials should not just be player or team focused but "officials" too theres already been some bad decisions out of 6-8 games so far, need to sort their shit out before rnd 1..

Having said that, win/lose dont matter. I felt the game was ok ... Webby only needs to see the boys do enough, once he does, get them off, why risk injuries... But shit we have some great young talent... Late in the 2nd half was great to see them do their thing... Definitely keepers there...

The start they were attempting too many short passes in the forwards. I'd be a fan of it going forward but the conditions weren't ideal.

Clark pretty much carried on his form last year.

Our attack with Boyd looks like it has the last few years. Move the ball around a lot but not much happens.

Iremia-Toeava I like as he's fit enough for first grade, does a lot of work and isn't full of mistakes.

Fatialofa looked like he got some decent minutes. More a chance to get some work in as he didn't get much chances.

Mellars I can see why they recruited him. He could be a good target in the air. The question do we have the kickers to provide the opportunities. Some of his mistakes were due to the conditions. He should improve over the season.
