Better general Defence from Taine too.Trying to be a half glass full kinda guy.
Yes, we lose Metcalf whose been killing it this year. But with both him and CNK out for the next 4 weeks, and against the Tigers, Knights and Titans it looks like we'll be able to muck around with a few of our options.
If we go TMM at fb, Taine on the wing (I'm assuming DWZ still out) and bringing Healey on to the bench I can see these positives and negatives:
Positives:
Better goal kicker (Tannah)
Better general kicking (Tannah)
More ball playing from the back (TMM)
More energy off the bench from dummy half (Healey)
More spark from wing (Taine)
Negatives:
Less meters from the back (CNK)
Cohesion and consistency (CNK, Metcalf)
Halves x factor (Metcalf)
No bench utility (TMM)
Unfortunately, so far Dallin hasn't been at his peak so I really don't think we lose anything from what we've had when Dallin's been playing this year.
As long as our forwards gain parity or dominate from the front, I think we'll go well. Excited to see what we can create. There could be a silver lining in these injuries....
100% I would be very surprised if they picked Boyd over TMM for the 7Do we think defence will be the top consideration when it comes to our Metcalf replacement? If so, Boyd has not defended on the right edge at all in 2025 where as TMM has in 6 NSW Cup games and has also lined up next to Berry before. Many seem to think Boyd is a certainty, but apart from picking Tuaupiki over Kosi to begin the season, history shows he tends to go back to the players he's previously put faith in
Not sure who I prefer for the 7, but I don’t think Boyd would’ve opted to stick around and take up his option if he was gonna be 3rd choice 7. I think the best balance might be 1. TMM 6. CHT 7. Boyd 14. Healey
Webster seems to have lost faith in TMM as a half option though (first he doesn't get the gig, then he gets used in a completely different role, then he gets told to look elsewhere next season, so I expect Boyd will get his shot. Webster does prefer guys with NRL experience where possible, but Boyd is an NRL player so that shouldn't hold him back.Do we think defence will be the top consideration when it comes to our Metcalf replacement? I started a thread with a poll.
Any team that loses their best prop and half back would struggle. Imagine the Raiders losing Tapine and Fogerty. Boyd will likely do a solid job but I have tempered my expectations. I hope we get more improvement out of our young guys so next year we can have a solid crack at the GF.This is a bitter pill to swallow..after a stellar start to the season again we have lost all our stars..not just for a few games but season ending..Frustration just doesn't even explain it..Niokore needs to lead this team now.
The problem was we were relying on Metcalf to make something from nothing BECAUSE our attacking weapons (wingers and second rowers) weren’t being set up.Now that we don't have Metcalfs ability to score points out of nowhere, we'll need to make up those points from somewhere, we definitely need Laban and Leka to keep attacking kicks ala Eli Katoa which I think Boyd and Webby will continue with, as with the cross kick to DWZ when he's back, but I also think we need to start doing more offloads in and around the ruck, we need more flare, take risks or our points will dry up... TMM at fullback for mine with Tuaupiki on wing, just gives us more attacking and ball playing options, that means we can bring in Healey who can be another attacking option around the ruck instead of TMM holding a bench spot, we can't just rely on our defense and hope we score a try more than the opposition, we are at the pointy end of the season, we are going to have to score points with one of our main strikepowers gone... Tigers have points in them, to me this is a turning point game for us, at where we are and whether we just there to make up numbers in the finals series

It’s criminal that Leka and DWZ aren’t being put into holes. They are point scoring machine if used right.
Our halves were the main problem in attack, not the solution we’re going to be missing.
So if we had different halves we would be scoring more tries? I don't think it's as simple as that, sure ball playing halves may get the odd setup try but it negates what he can do by breaking the line and setting up other player, that's probably why I want TMM at fullback so he's another half in the line and he's a ballplayer, I do think Boyd is more like what you want and will use Leka and Laban cutting in and attacking gaps better then Metcalf was, so I'm all on board with him at halfback, I actually think he'll play Webby plan to a tee... But I also think we need more ball playing and attack around the ruck which I'm hoping Webby will start bringing in Healey just to give us other option... I thought Egan looked lackluster the last couple loses, no way I'm blaming him or any players really for our loses, but we need to step up our game in attack or I think we'll get left behindThe problem was we were relying on Metcalf to make something from nothing BECAUSE our attacking weapons (wingers and second rowers) weren’t being set up.
