Round 19 and 20 last year. Narrow losses to Bulldogs and Canberra. Not good at all.
Away to an inform dogs in extra time and we should have won with a penalty in normal time. They cleaned us out when they played us at home later. Raiders away, a game we should have won also if CHT could kick a goal. Maybe not at the incredibly high level of the Panthers, dolphins, cowboys games but hardly shitters. We aren't talking 2 runs for 9m territory.

It’s not a given with Metcalf either with his previous injury issues…

Then: Metcalf could move to Aussie; J Cleary could be ready in 2 years, Hughes might want to come home, etc

Plan ahead but anything can happen.

Do you know what AWs instructions or game plan was for LM.
Did he want him to be a link man only 🤔
If that's the case he did a good job.

I personally doubt Te Maire retires unless no one offers him a gig, especially just so he doesnt have to leave NZ for a couple years.

No way he's made early retirement bank in the 4 seasons he's been back, and he said himself working in the Taharoa sand mines wasn't his go and there's not much else employment wise out there. Even the hunting and fishing videos are helped enormously by having the spotlight of being an active NRL player.

I'd imagine his preference is to stay in NZ but if someone offers him decent enough coin for a couple seasons I could see him (and the missus) taking it while he can.

No doubt he'll go home to the coast when it's all said and done, but it's not going anywhere.

Oh man just thinking about that weak gutted dog still hurts. Not saying that we shoulden't of won both of those games and that people did not play worse. Because they did. Just that he played poorly IMO for 2 of the 8 games.
But even as a big metcalf fan, this roosters game was a pretty bad prefromance. Fingers crossed he gets a lot of learnings out of that game. We will be in for a amazing year if we have 2 great 7s!

CHT made a couple of errors but IMO he has been the best and most consistent of our two halves. He is carrying the combo a fair bit. I've been pleasantly surprised by him so far this season. I hope he continues on.

Nah

He’s done his job

Nothing more. Nothing less

You’re praising him because he hasn’t stuffed up like he normally does. It’s a low bar

If everyone does their job we should be in a good place. He has done his job consistently well for three games IMO. If/when he stuffs up then he will get warranted criticism. Until then he is our best performer if the two in the halves so far

The first person who speaks you can follow.

The second person barely speaks english fluently and spews a nonsense of jargon that is reads out the back looks and other bullshit not worth bothering with.

Interesting, I could follow the other bloke fine, he's got a vicious Aussie twang though for sure.

And I appreciate technical jargon in sports talk personally, I reckon league coverage in general is terrible for dumbing the game down instead of educating us. Bring back Sterlo's NRL tactics show, too much NRL 360 style bs.

That Sterlo show was great. I like the Matty Johns podcast with Cooper Cronk when they start breaking down play.

Webster has said he won't change the halves for the first few rounds. I can't recall the exact time frame he used. Might have been 6 weeks.

We have two first grade halves in NSW Cup. They seem to be working well together.

Like the other positions it is good to have guys coming back via NSW Cup or pressing their claims from that grade. It is also hard to judge some players in that grade. Yesterdays was a bit of a write off with the result. It is better with the tighter games to see if the first grade players look a step up or are guys doing all of the little things like supporting runs or covering defensively.

We will likely have some games this year where we lose as our attack doesn't click. The main thing is we are competitive each week and our confidence doesn't drain as the season goes like last year.

On the contract status of the halves.

TMM it could be they have a few of the younger guys due to come in to the top 30 with the way their contracts are structured. I can't recall what I have seen in with Cleary and Hansen. It might be a tough decision for the club and unfortunate that he's the one coming off contract. Maybe they discuss a positional change.

Metcalf we have shown a lot of faith in him with his injuries and now giving him a shot at 7. Even if we did drop him for form it would still cost a lot for another club to poach him as they would need to pay him a decent contract.

To be honest I'm more worried week to week and turning around our poor 2024.
