Pick Your Team Warriors v Panthers - [Round 16, 2025]

🤖 Thread Summary

The forum discussion revolves around team selections and strategies for the Warriors' upcoming game against the Penrith Panthers, particularly considering the Panthers may field a weakened side due to Origin commitments. Discussions initially centered on the utility players TMM and Healey, with opinions divided on who should be on the bench given their different skill sets and the team's needs but recent sentiment focuses on the importance of experience for the utility role. Recently, the focus shifted to potential replacements for players like Capewell, who may be rested due to Origin duties, and the injured Ali, with suggestions including promoting players from the NSW Cup side. Participants like sydneywarrior92 #38 have emphasized the need to avoid complacency and exploit Penrith's weakened state to improve their point differential.

A significant point of discussion is the potential impact of resting key players like Capewell and Egan, with some arguing for prioritizing their long-term health over a single game, even against a depleted Panthers team. The consensus seems to be leaning toward resting Capewell given his Origin call-up and the travel involved, with various suggestions for filling the center position. Speculation about TMM's future with the team continues, with some believing he's valuable as a versatile utility while others suggest he might be showcased for other clubs. sup42 #27 and others have speculated about the coaching staff's view of TMM and whether he is meeting expectations, while some advocate for giving Healey a chance in the utility role.

The potential of young players like Hanson and Gannon to step up is also debated, though it's generally agreed that Hanson is not quite ready for NRL. There's also concern that Ali, another young player, is struggling with fitness and defensive aspects of his game. Fanrrior #8 and others emphasized the importance of the squad mentality and using opportunities like this to develop younger players further, highlighting the team's depth and ability to perform even with key players missing. The broader context of the Warriors' season, including their relatively few home games and strong away form, is considered as they approach the game against the Panthers.

looks like he will be starting in the second row. So he's going to get much more than 5 minutes. If he's defending down Latrell's side, I expect he will have a very physically bruising night.

Panthers forum is debating the same thing: they are seriously hoping that Ivan makes the SOO boys back up from Perth. Given the dire nature of their finals situation, I understand their desperation. But given our comfortable position up the pointy end of the ladder, we have the luxury to not take such risks. I hope (and expect) webby won't go that route with Capewah. Asking him to playing 3 games in 11 days only increases the risk of serious injury. He's too important for our side to bear that long term risk. Him+Barney gone for the year would be devastating.
May as well put out our cup team,🤷 i mean we'll still probably win.

Players always want to play if the choice is theirs. That's their nature as risk-takers. I'm sure Webby knows that his job is to adopt a more holistic view. The risk of serious injury only 3 days after a grueling SOO match increases dramatically. The risk of Losing both Barney and Capewell to season ending injuries would be devastating for our cause. No need to take such risks when i) you have Berry coming back and ii) Leka/Laban are more than capable of holding down the fort as the starting back row as the sharks game showed.
Again....assuming Capewells involvement is grueling.....in which case I would not support his call up for NRL...but rather than say no play arbitrarily lets wait and see the whole picture before ruling people out.

I can't remember what thread and where I read it, but apparently players tend to say playing 2 or 3 days after a game is easier than 4 or 5 as the muscles get sore after that.

I was hoping no one would bring that up in here as that could be Ivan's thinking...

But yeah, at the end of the day I think Capewah is old and ugly enough that if he feels he's ready, let him make the call (as long as there's no injury worries of course)

I always thought that the day after a game was when I was sorest. From memory but that's a long time ago

If Rocco is fit to start then I think we get Capewah to sit the game out against the Panthers.
Not only does it rest him but also a great way to further develop our younger players and further develop after what they did against the sharks

As Webby has mentioned the club mentality is one of a squad mentality and this is an opportunity to develop it further. Fish, Wade and Marata can lead the way

Ivan has apparently hinted that he will be resting his origin players.

Gee
We have a known known - Tmm
And we have a known unknown - Gannon
Tmm has to have a contract
Webster is mates with young Morgan Gannons old man Jim.

That pretty much guarantees he will be getting taken seriously as an NRL option eh. Especially since he turned down a pay increase from Leeds to come out here.

I hope we keep TMM, but I am suspicious about whether TMM has been making the right noises with the coaching staff through all of this.

Can you elaborate on 'making the right noises'?

Just that Webster mentioned TMM has things to get better at.

I imagine those two talking and Webster hitting him up about why he goes missing in FG and six vs his personality change when in the seven or playing six in cup where he is a super star....and then I imagine that the reason that he has not been re signed yet is that his answers are unsatisfactory.....

Its funny though -he was a fantastic player at 1 for the Broncos . I think every time he played 1 they won the game.

I hope Webster does have those discussions.

TMM seems a really chill relaxed guy.
