I'm not sure if others feel the same way but I do think that we are missing a step in our go-forward so far this year, something we essentially led the comp in for the last 2 years. I suspect it's not just the loss of AFB but also because of the changes in our back five. Sure Marcelo and DWZ had their moments in defense, but their carries out of own half was instrumental in our dominating the comp last year in running meters. We're just not getting the same out of TT and RTS.

Not sure you can put RTS in there currently - 180m average after 2 games, 4.5 tackle busts a game, 2 line breaks and 2 tries. Plenty of go forward.

So far he's looked elite imo. Still early days tho.

It's quite funny looking at the difference in him playing centre last year and wing this year. He looked a fish out of water at times, and with his big price tag he was underperforming so probably had a bit more pressure on him.
This year he looks more comfortable, and while the price tag is still there he's able to play that roll well, so there's a fair bit of value for the team.

I think he'll finish the year with 15-20 tries and loads of running meters and tackle busts

On the less meters discussion

1) JFH for Addin means 50 to 60 less metres per game.
2) Clark for Jazz means 20 to 30 more metres per game
3) Different wingers means maybe 30-35 less metres per game (out my wahzoo)
4) Better bench in 2025 equals maybe 20 more metres than 2024

Net impact we are down maybe 40 metres or 2 to 3 metres per set.

However some mitigating factors
a) We were probably best in the league at metres gained last year and came 4th to last so it is not that important a dynamic.
b) We were Jeckyll and Hyde at it. As soon as Addin went off the field we fell away and frequently lost in the match in those stanzas. In 2025 we will be consistent even when our starting props are off the field as our bench is better this year.
c) As others have mentioned our Defence has improved notwithstanding the round one result. And as Webby says Defence is what creates Offence.

Dont remember Jazz going >125m ~50mins back to back weeks. I think Clarks meters over Jazz may be a bit more than that.

In 2024 Tevaga averaged 90 metres per game and Clark last year averaged 99 metres per game.

If Clark can keep up 140 metres per game that would put him as a 50 metre enhancement over Jazz - can he keep up 140metres? maybe not might fall back a wee bit. I do think he can comfortably beat his 99 from last year with his enhanced role with us however.

The last point I stumbled upon while researching this to respond to you, is that his 99 metres per game last year is notable. 100 metres for a forward is the gold standard. So to basically just miss that by one metre is a good accomplishment.

I think we have done extremely well out of this exchange of Jazz for Clark and to your point after the match - Jazz missed some key tackles as well.

Swapping Jazz for Clark also means less dumb penalties and errors in the ruck. Did my head in the number of times last year we'd be dominating the ruck in the first 20 minutes and then a dumb Jazz error/penalty relieves the pressure and changes the momentum of the game against us. Also don't understand why Manly played Jazz at hooker-it never worked during his stint with us.

We had Addin and co getting us into the opposition 20 and even with SJ would make poor attacking plays.

In round one this year we couldn't make metres against a bully pack of Raiders.

In round two we ascended in the forward battle and our mid tier halves pulled their water pistol triggers and we won.
