Team List Warriors v Cowboys - [Round 9, 2025]

That tells you a bit about the speed of cover defence too, doesn't it? You'd imagine those speedsters in the Dolphins, Canberra, Titans etc. are chasing down line breaks. That doesn't tell what happens in the subsequent tackles though. Metcalf was chased down, but Newcastle conceded from within their 20 from the pressure the run put them under.

That offload and then second-phase speed is what will kill off the Warriors if it is allowed to happen.

I think it's a by product of our overall defense strategy. Webby appears to be a bit of a stats nerd and will tend to choose the route that has the highest chance of yielding results.

So far, touch wood, this appears to have worked.

Unfortunately, it seems vulnerable to teams with creative playmakers. Very close to how we used to play, back in the day and why the Storm had issues up until that really stopped.

Statistically, this game is close.

Listening to Martin Devlin with Tony Kemp yesterday.

Kemp whoever did the draw is smart as getting to Townsville is the hardest trip as we need to fly to Brisbanse wait at the airport for a connecting flight to Townsville.

Then in the comments. That all works out well but this is a Warriors home game.

Although I found it funny, we play the Cowboys once this year, so it helps one of the two teams that travel the most as they don't have to fly into Brisbane then to Auckland. Plus the travel back.

I know the club likes Magic Round as a home game for the payout from the NRL but it could be worth approaching the Cowboys to try and make it an annual fixture for Magic Round. Alternate the home side each year.

Just a suggestion to reduce the travel.

If I were taking a neutral stance, I think it's a fair and sensible proposition.

That being said, doesn't it work in our favour to have one more home game, at home, a year?

If a Perth team comes into the competition both us and the Perth Pirates should request to play each other at magic round

I like Martin's inclusion, could give Egan a spell and we could see CHT get another crack.

We have cover in all areas of the starting team, I think with Niukore staring prop and having Bunty, Vaimauga and Ford on the bench is enough forward cover.

Webby is getting the horses for courses right here i think. Martin loves this ground.
CHT said he hates playing in the middle interestingly which probably puts to bed any CHT to lock chat.
I hope we bring in Lussick or Healey instead of TMM

What type of contract is Iremia-Toeava on?

Webster was on the radio a few weeks ago and said Capewell was named in the centres as they were short of outside backs and couldn't use any development players until after round 10.

They could be getting him around the side in preparation for a debut later in the year?

I'm sure he's been named previously, but I haven't checked which year/rounds.

He wouldn't be able to be named if he wasn't on a contract where he could play. Webster would have probably been referring to Moala Graham-Taufa on that occasion

Pretty sure he played in one of the preseason games at center?

I feel like we are about at the stage now where we need to spell Egan to keep him fresh for the season. Martin to 6 and CHT to hooker mid game is something I am not a fan of. Either TMM comes onto 9 or out Healey on the bench

Yeah, a bit worried that if Egan outplays Robbo this weekend he'll be in line for a call up to the NSW team. Would be great for him and the experience he gets out of it, but the last person in our team we need to be playing MORE time is Egan lol.

I wonder if Egan and Webby has spoken about this - realistically Egan's probably not going to get the NSW spot if he's getting concussions, looking injured every tackle and having big spells on the bench, so they might be trying to show that Egan can be a tough, 80 min Origin type player this year?

That's all well and good but who replaces him in our team when he breaks down...I think we need to start giving Healey game time soon to cover all bases
