Penrith are working on a long-term extension for Jett Cleary as they look to keep the younger brother of halfback Nathan and son of coach Ivan out of the clutches of the Warriors.

Panthers sources confirmed on Friday morning that the club was keen to keep the teenager, who has been a star in lower grades.

The Warriors, buoyed by their successful pursuit of Penrith prop James Fisher-Harris, are believed to be interested in Jett Cleary but Penrith are determined to hold onto a player earmarked to eventually join his brother in the halves.

The Warriors are well equipped in the halves but Shaun Johnson is closer to the end than the beginning of his career and Jett Cleary’s signature would help prepare them for Johnson’s eventual retirement.

Not sure if there’s more but I think this is it?

So it’s just a bunch of nothing.

Could just be Webby doing Ivan a solid to boost Jett's income, without it looking like he's favoring him.

Hard to say if there could be any implications with pushing them to a long term offer and if that could have future implications on their salary cap? He might decide to buck the trend with the panthers already doing something special and translating that over here? To be honest I haven’t even seen him to know if I’m excited that we could get him?

Seems obvious, if Penrith want to keep hold of him, the club will. End of discussion.
No one at Panthers HQ is going to upset Ivan eh. And the kid is a teenager, he has a Dad and brother that are his heroes, he will do whatever they tell him too.

Also salary cap won’t be an issue because they have Nathan and Ivan there. They can just top up either of those on due time to make up for any squeeze. Keep it all in the family, Ivan can buy Jet his first house.
