Too many one dimensional players on this team.

Two guys I would try to offload this offseason; Capewell and Nuikore etc. Taking up a shitload of salary cap and provide sweet fuck all.

CNK days at fullback are done. Get him out of that jersey. Taine needs to be playing no. 1 as of next week. I don't care about our wing crisis. Play Sio Kali on the wing or play Pompey on the wing with CNK at centre.

How does Ford kept getting picked ahead of Ale. And how does he keep getting more minutes than Halasima/Vaimauga. He provides absolutely nothing.
Agree on heaps of this. But it appears we're in a state of "yous have to pull finger"
I’m still scratching my head as to why he would attempt a 40/20 on the 3rd tackle while we were down big and at halfway…
40/20 is great. Just need to nail it. His timing would have been that he saw the opportunity. Bloody got the angle wrong on a shorter narrower pitch

NZWarriors.com

Minor source of hope - official Warriors page really put boot in by using the past participle and not the irregular verb to emphasis not only did they lose they're not coming back from this the same...

Honestly going into the game I was never going to make any snap judgements on the performance ( good or bad). It's such a different occasion with so many other factors. Don't stress until we are back in the regular season
That’s the one thing to hold on to, regardless of coach and players we are always terrible in big occasion games, part of the curse. Probably means we’ll never win a comp, they could make a grand final as 1 seed vs an 8 seed and probably choke on the occasion. Pretty humiliating weekend after all the promotion they sunk into it, management will be fuming

I think the thing that worries me most is that it doesn’t look like Webby had a plan to use Clark as a creative starting 13 - he figured he’d just put Barnett there for extra size. This smallish pack is going to need to be creative to move up the field, one out running should not be our game.
That's where you need good backrowers! Capewell and Niukore can't provide the punch on the edge we need.

I’m starting to get the vibe that Webby is just a nice guy and good man manager. Really struggling to see the high IQ decisions.

I’m even starting to question if he even has a feel for the flow of a game.
No.
His failure which is spoken about in the Wayne Bennett biography written by Andrew Webster
You have to remove players past their best
It’s difficult when there s been two way coach player coach loyalty for years
Tough
He can’t even drop non performers from the team
Man manager maybe not

Look on the bright side

Getting exposed so badly in rd1 will hopefully make Webby realise his model isnt going to work.

I’m confident he will make the necessary adjustments by rd 5 to give more playing time to the rookies.

I am in no doubt now this year is a development year for them.

The old cattle need to be phased out

5 players - Egan, RTS,,Capewell, Ford and Marata

Oh yeah CHT and LM in the halves doesn’t work for me

I hope you’re right.

Any decent podcasts with guys who will shred the team rather than kiss ass?

I think the bro Levon is part of the forum. Live every monday and tuesday night

He half moved by naming and playing Demetric and Leka. Starting them is a huge step for Webby that will take some ballbags to take.

Egan was my pick for a phase out last year but only because of head knock accumulation. And that hasn't changed for me. He's here so keep him till his wheels fall off. They're only wobbly at the moment.

I'm ok on Capewah staying.

Ford, I'm happy to release or to NSW cup you go. He's ok as a depth guy at best unless he gets feral by next week.

Marata. He looks trim. But his value is back in the middle. I'd only use him as bench prop at best. Might have to hang out with Fordy in cup.

I'd keep Roger on the wing. And lose or move Charnze. He looks cooked for the fullback role in the modern game.

It’s obvious to me that bland key attacking players (Ford, Capewell, etc) doesn’t work with rookie halves and a fullback that doesn’t inject himself.

There is simply no threat. ITS NEVER GOING TO WORK.

2024 coming up all over again. Surprise us Webster!
I was too caught up in our shithouse defence that I hardly noticed if we had runners hitting gaps which was key in 23 when SJ was hitting the runners in holes left right and centre.

Without rewatching the horrors of yesterday I safely assume we had hardly any organised runners hitting holes.

I will begin with the same caveat I always do. I personally believe in key turning points in a game while others believe every moment is important and you can't pinpoint it down to one factor, one player, or certainly one play...so if you are in that latter camp please skip my post as it won't resonate with your paradigm for match analysis.

The turning point for me was CNK being penalised for kicking his leg out into Horsborough while taking a good leaping catch and getting penalised. I think they might have scored off the next set. The impact was profound on CNK who is in my mind a confidence player. He lost his fledgling confidence (fledgling because he had a bad year last year yet hard worked hard in the pre season to bounce back) and then he screwed the pooch over compensating on a bomb in the second half by not leaping at all and gave up a back breaking try.
Then he dropped his lip and didn't even attempt to tackle a raider who broke into the backfield and he conceded another try that Tuapiki or RTS would have stopped and then he spiralled even further by getting in the way in the Red Zone attacks and ruining things.
Can he bounce back - or is this it. His confidence is now gone for his career. He was out of form all season. Bounced back well in the pre season trials and then got his confidence knocked around in game one.
For the first twenty minutes of the game he was ok. For the last 60 minutes after the Horsborough penalty his play was that of the worst fullback in the NRL first grade by some distance.
A good coach does man to man management. This is on Webster to either get CNK right in the head or alternatively put TMM at fullback next game.
